Hi Chad,

It's a great shame that you can't/won't do it, even if as a fun test run out there. Is there any date that you would be ok with doing it in European Car for you? I did try to work it around what you could do originally. I understand you can't do November but is December 2nd not good also? I know you don't think Willow Springs is a good enough track. Is Thunderhill the only track that you would consider? Let me know what it would take to change things for you to be able to enter the car? Change of venue of the dyno from GIAC back to Scargo? Change of track from Willow Springs back to Thunderhill?

Thanks but I am starting to doubt if this thing will ever happen. I think that with BuddyG's Tail of the Dragon Meet and you not entering it would not be the same.

Maybe you'll be third time lucky... Best of luck.

PS For the rest of you, Hamman7, Fred, Duane, Mweels, Heinz Gemballa etc... I'll see what's what on Monday then. In the mean-time I'm going to jump in the pool. I think the temperature is in the high 50s.

sharkster,

I like Thunder Hill or Button Willow. However, the track is not my only concern. Temperatures are going to be on the cold side in December. I have a concern with this. It wasn't too many weeks ago at Infineon a F-50 hit the wall and was totaled. There was a very competent, well known driver behind the wheel (LeMans Podium finish). The problem was attributed to cold temperatures and the race tires as this same driver had alot of experience with this same car on the same track. In addition I have a concern as to who would be driving.

There are many people who would like to see this go. Just look at the feedback. It looks like six people are already committed and maybe more. Just do it.

The nice thing about doing it in the South is that the temperatures remain nice and warm in the 70s/80s so temperature would not be a concern, I think?

If you have a driver in mind, such as the Le Mans driver you were going to have originally, I know that that would be just fine with European Car. They were going to provide a professional driver but as I told you, if you have someone better that you're more comfortable with then please do bring them forward- everyone would be happy I'm sure.

Doing at Willow Springs and following European Car's structure also means that all the cars would be insured unlike if we had run at Thunder Hill originally and something bad had happened.

Anyways, I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination. Just some ghetto-guy tryin' to get us all together for a fun couple of days out

Alex,

IMHO I think you should go for the Nov timeline. BuddyG will be able to go and most others, and it won't crimp this Dragon run thing. It would be a shame if Duane can't go, and it appears as if Chad is only going to go under his set of circumstances, so why not get it going and over with? There is always room for another tuner shootout next year when everybody can plan to their delight.

I guess I just don't get Chad's stance on this, his original shootout was set for early Nov, and as if a few weeks will make a huge temperature difference in Southern California? The driver is a valid concern, but would this not be a concern for all people involved and would have to be sorted out and agreed upon by all?

Anyway, I say get it on and don't look back. You worked hard to get it to this point and I think it will be great with all of those who are committed so far.

Sharky,

Yeah, the magazine ultimately will have to make their decision on dates and whoever can come will come. If it is December 2nd I will not be there. Just about any other date and I wil be.

Thanks for your work on this!

Hi Buddy, I'll try to get them to order track/dyno time after that. Maybe they'll tell us to take a hike at this point but I will try...

Thanks Michael I've been on the phones all week (slacking on my own car hehe). It's obviously harder than I had originally thought to get people from the East and West Coasts together what with difficulties with schedules, cars being ready or not etc... I'm hoping that something can be sorted so that BuddyG and Duane (needs more time) can be included also. I'll talk to Les and Dan at European Car on Monday to see if they can accomodate CJV's needs because it just wouldn't be the same without him.

With all of that said, there are enough owners that want to enter- that was not going to be a problem. So here's hoping it'll get done in some form...

Agreed, especially since Chad came up with this whole concept, it would be a real shame not to see him there. I certainly hope his concerns can be addressed.

Guys,

We also have an issue with the car. Yes, it made 626 rwhp, however we are out of fuel. When we installed the 90 mm throttle body we did not put the added injector on the new splitter because we were suppose to have the 72 pound injectors from RC Engineering. Well they are late, they are not due for another thirty days. My last dyno run had an air fuel ratio 13.1-1+ after 6000 rpm's. It got as high as 13.8-1. I didn't have detonation due to the 100 octane fuel but I am not going to take any chances until the larger injectors are installed.

Believe me when I say that I really want a shootout to happen sooner than later. But, my car has been gone for over 3 weeks now and I am having serious withdrawals. GIAC will be done next week and I would really like to have it back to drive for a few weeks before the white stuff starts to fly around here! November 17th isn't too far off so I could wait for that but if it is December or later no can do!

If it doesn't happen November 17th I will not be interested until next Spring. Whatever happens is fine with me, this car and upgrade is for me and no one else. If it works out great if not oh well!

I want my car back! I love my Subie but it is no tt!

Alex,

You should be commended for your efforts in getting this set-up. It is amazing that with all that crap talking everyone was doing, now people are not participating. Each of you may have your reasons, but, come on. It would be a shame if Chad and Buddy did not participate. These are two of three cars I want to see in action.(the other being Tyson's car) Come on guys, do what you can to get there. It seems that the interest was extremely high before and no has subsided. What gives?

Lou,

I would love to be a part of the shootout and ANY date works for me other than December 2nd. I committed over 1 month ago to the Tail of the Dragon meet so it is not like something has suddenly come up. Also Sharkey called me originally and said they wanted to do it November 17th and I was all set and ready, now the date has changed.

I want to see this happen as much as anyone else!

Like I said, I've been down to do this since day one and I'm still down.

It is disappointing to see people starting to back down.

My car ain't running perfect either because of some software niggles due to the aggressive throttle mapping, but who gives a ****. This event is for fun, so win or lose, the most important thing is that you show up.

November, December, whatever... once you guys figure it out, let me know.

Alex, I think we should move forward with this event regardless of whether Chad can make it or not. I understand that he has his concerns and conditions, so we'll all just run again when he actually gets his own Shootout event off the ground that meets his specific criteria.

We have all been waiting a long time for Chad to get this going, and pretty soon the 996 Turbo will be obsolete. We owe it to ourselves and the members of this board to get a little fun comparo going. You have put in a lot of work to set this up, so let's just do it.

I was going to keep my comments to myself but here goes.

I do agree that it would be a shame not to have Chad's car at the shootout. But it's not fair to everyone else if an event is canceled due to one car not being ready.

Take a look at product reviews for example. For example a magazine is doing a review on Digital Camera's. They contact each manufacturer to send the cameras for testing. They still do the feature even if one or more manufacturers are not able to submit their latest model in time.

So to me, that's the way I see things. If 6 cars can do it now and only one can't then why hold off. Their will be other times and gives the other cars ample time to get ready.

Whatever the outcome I will be happy though. And thanks to Alex and Chad for all their hard efforts in organizing such events.

You're right Fred. Let's just get it done. I am sure their will be plenty of representation. I for one cannot wait to see the cars in action
