Porsche Coolant Confusion

I developed a leak in the right front radiator and need to add several gallons of fluid to my cooling system on my 2003 996TT. The fluid in there is a year old and it is Prosche fluid and it is pink.

I am happy to stay with Porsche fluid, but as a look around I see several different part numbers for Porsche fluid and don't know which one(s) will work. Some of the pictures show a black label, some show a white label. Also prices for a gallon range from $30 to $50.

My sense is that there may be a difference in the fluid between the 996 and 997 models, but I am not sure.

Does anyone know the differences if any between these part numbers, and which is the proper pink for our 996TTs?

When I picked some up from the dealer last summer, I don't think he even asked for the model. I assume it's fine for any modern Porsche. The bottle has a white label; coolant indeed looks pink.

the VW/Audi g12 is the same. it's pink, is compatible ( anti gel ) with the porsche oem fill.. and about $30 per gal. just - the porsche logo. ok, here come the flames lol

it absolutely does. it is after all just propylene glycol with the branded ones adding fairy dust the only thing to note is that coolant needs to be the "OAT" compatible ( which is the anti gel component ), and 50/50 mixed.. and the NEWest audi/vw/porsche stuff. it's all same, regardless of what others will say. ( ducking again.. lol )

I added Elmer's glue to my coolant. Helps to keep the pipes in. Was that wrong?

Yep, they are just banking on the fact that the typical Porsche owner bought the car to drive to Sunday breakfast and believes it will blow up if you put in anything different . Some great marketing right there

Well think what you want but I know for a fact the Porsche fluid has unicorn tears in it and the others don't! My buddy ran some in his Turbo without the unicorn tears and the coolant pipes blew out of the engine!

apologies to the OP. this thread can't have turned out as you'd hoped. i realize you asked about porsche branded coolant which has lead to the litany of advice though related, not what you asked for at all...

i also just recently replaced my pass side rad, and after R&R i needed approx 1 gal of vw/audi g12 ( 50/50 of course ) along with an afterblast of maybe 1/2 gal of distilled water. i already had a very fresh mix of the pink stuff.. but as noted above, they mix without issues ( porsche and audi coolant ) etc.

OH here we go again........

I want the best best best (Grease, oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, Power steering fluid) in the world for my precious baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People worry so much about using the absolute best best best products possible for there cars yet care very little products they feed themselves or there families...

OK that last sentence was an aside topic but I just wanted to get that in there as a comparison.

Serious there is no real winner out there when it comes to coolants. Some will say that it has to be an OAT type coolant, or this type, or that type.
But I say --> there is more them one way to skin a cat.... The GM dex-cool antifreeze is an OAT coolant, funny enough GM was involved in a group class action lawsuit that put there coolant division of GM out of business.... That is a trick of the trade, never put all your eggs in one basket. So when someone sues you they can not attack the whole company, just one division.... And if the amount gets to be more then you want to bare it just bankrupts that small portion of the company, not the entire company..... Then it was found after some extensive testing that low coolant was a very likely culprit in many of the cases. Then the Japanese say.... OUR Dex-cool like OAT coolant is so different then theirs... Yeah right!!!!!

And then we have the Germans selling us there private label variety at fine imported Beluga caviar prices!!!!!

What do I say as a former Auto engineer that knows a thing or two about engines and the chemicals that go in them... Pick a brand from a quality manufacturer and try to stay with it.... When in doubt, change more frequently.

I agree with Engine Guy coolant with too many miles on it is one of the worse things you can do to a motor.

Yep, changing fluids frequently is more important than the actual brand.
