Will Not Take On Fuel.. Any Help

Hey all.. Cant find a thread about this issue.. So any help would be huge..

996 TT stocker 2003. 16500 miles..
Went to fuel station this am after running about 20 miles when the light came on for me to consider range with remaining fuel..
I went to put fuel in and could not.. Seemed that the fill tube was filling up and would not let me add any fuel to the car...
Soo...
I stoped trying after spilling 1/2 of the 3/4 of a gallon I tried to pump on the ground...
Drove it around the block of fuel station. thinking air lock or something stupid..
Tried again...
Same deal...
Drove it home and parked it..
Any solutions?
FYI I have fueled this car dozens of times.. Just to take that out of the equation..

Thanks

Had happen to me few weeks back but no problems since. I could put gas in with a gas can and the extension on it. So I took the extension off the can and took it to the gas station. It fits perfectly over the nozzle and provides an extension 8-10 inches into the tank.

that's genius! charcoal canister though. no more second fill for me. first auto shutoff and i'm done whether full or not. failing charcoal canister. dollars to doughnuts bet.

Genius hardly....I just happened to look over at the can and it just came over me like a lightbulb.

Guy thought it was my canister when I described the issue in another thread but I haven't had a problem since.

Put fuel in it tonight she took it from a fuel can, no adapter. I think it was just me being dysfunctional before coffee... Pretty scarey since moments before I was pushing red in 3rd gear passing some rice burner with big exhaust..

if you're having to add fuel from a gas can? you're not imagining your problems.

yeah.. and another guy on that thread mentioned shell gas pumps as beng problematic.. and i've been using some.. and having issues

i must say though.. this place is pretty accurate in terms of symptoms mentioned vis a vis problems solved. though i do sometimes get thrown by guys that haven't had their cars long enough to know what's *normal* and what's not.

mine always took an extra top off after auto shut off. not any more. so, perhaps i have fkd the canister.
