996 TT Water Pump Replacement DIY
Mine was at 156 km (just under 60 K miles.) It wasn't real serious though - I heard a funny intermittent noise coming from the engine. I stopped the car and went to look, didn't see anything (oil/water leaking) so I drove home. An hour later there was a puddle of coolant under the car. They actually have a weeping hole specifically to leak when the bearing goes (very slow leak). It wouldn't be cool on a long trip, but it's not real serious if it happens locally.

Nice DIY!
There is a specific procedure to refill the system. It requires a vacuum in the system and the Porsche PST tester has a specific routine to go through after the system has been refilled.
The vacuum pump is also good for checking if the system is sealed or not, before you refill it. See pictures.
The least you want to have is a larger air bubble that prevents proper cooling of the system, causing overheating in that certain area.
