California Crackdown on Modified Cars

Has anyone been pulled over for any of the offenses. Some seem ridiculous, like the ban on stickers.

It's kind of annoying that they use a picture of a stock vehicle to talk about excessive modding. I've heard of STi owners getting harassed because of their stock wing or exhaust.

That's ridiculous, pretty soon, it'll be illegal to own a car over 200hp.

Jerk-offs are just trying to find any way to garner extra revenue they can in light of California's fiscal problems. There are other more productive ways of "raising" funds.....

I can understand trying to curb street racing, but taking away our freedom of enjoying our cars is rediculous....their just masking this money laundering scheme by blaming or pin-pointing drivers of modified cars. ....spend the 5 million on curtailing the illegal immigrants coming into California or buy books for schools....geez

They've cracked down like this in Toronto for the past few years. But in Toronto, it's even MORE BS than in Cali.

If you have ANY modifications, you'll get a ticket. If you modified your exhaust with one that's louder, you get a ticket. If you modified your intake, you get a ticket for $600 because you've changed a device that's part of the "Emmissions System".

It doesn't matter if it's CARB Legal (even though CARB standards are tougher than Canadian Standards), they still say it's bad for the environment and "CARB Legal" has no bearing in Canada.

I'm sure the police KNOW that the mods aren't bad for the environment, they just like to hassle motorists because they stereotype them as "racers".

When I was younger and driving a much more "Mod Flashy" car, I used to get harrassed all the time. Now that I'm older, I leave my cars pretty much stock to avoid the trouble.

But since I'm older and wiser now, if the police decide they want to harrass me for nothing, I'll be sure to take legal action to defend my personal rights.

Arnold & Co are looking for ways to get CA out it's $30B debt. The next thing on the agenda is to ticket you if you are wearing white after labor day.

Last week Arnold was real proud of a new bill requiring people that work outside in the hot weather to take breaks to have a drink of water. Big ****ing deal. Like they already were not doing that. I swear it was on the news and every govermental DICK was patting themselves on the back and thought it was so good that it was agreed by both the left and the right. Great job. I pay a lot of txes to live here. I am so proud of the (BLOW) job the politicians are doing for us in Sacramento.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I read the CHP website- gotta love the political correctness of suggesting that Asians might be bad drivers with too much car for them to handle.

MVCs are a leading cause of death for just about every ethnicity young male.

Note to CHP- while you're ticketing a "ricer" in an Evo for having an oversized wing in spite of the fact that he was going the speed limit, be sure to have as much zeal stopping the drunk in the Malibu before he kills someone. ******.

I'm so glad that I don't live in California.

I here those boys in Texas can stick it to you pretty well. I travel to Allen about once a month and getting from DFW can sometimes be a little tricky. Love the Dallas area. Love III Forks for Steak. The martinias are pretty good too.

hey, i'm not for this bill for the fact that it is being seemingly unconstitutional, but DO like the fact that it will take some of the silly looking "fast and furious" crowd off of the street.....these cars are an eye-sore in every neighborhood!....and sound even worse with their leaf-blower exhausts. i mean, come on! if this will put an end to rediculous looking ricer-mobiles polluting the beautiful sights and sounds of california, then i am all for it. next, please do something about the horrible noise harleys davidson's make. there is nothing worse than enjoying a beautiful drive on pch in malibu than to have motorcycle after motorcycle distrupting the peace. i have nothing against loud cars if they sound great (ie: ferrari's w/ tubis, 427 sc's, twin turbos with work done or anyting that is an orchestra to the ear), but let's face it....harleys do not sound good, and neither do your run of the mill rice rockets that are lowered on cut springs and 4 inch exhaust pipes.

harleys don't sound good, are you nuts????

This isn't anything new, and the only place I really see it taking effect is in the street racing areas. As far as pulling over for stickers and stuff, it's probably the guys who throw them on the windshield, I know they use to crack down hard on that because it was "impeding the drivers view". I've never heard of someone getting pulled over for a spoiler, that's a new one.

Just about every import these days driven by 20-35 yo crowd have fart cans these days. Combined with those Mustang and lousy Harleys, I am not able to open my window much as a result. I have no problem w occasional whizzing by of an import or muscle car but when everyone is doing it, it's time for a crackdown. Just my perspective.
