Powder Coating?
Powder Coating?
Hey, just wanted to see if anyone here did any of their own powder coating? Or see if anyone planned to start powder coating in the future?
The reason I ask, is I have created a pretty in-depth guide to diy powder coating. New articles will be posted frequently, so be sure to check back. You can see it here: http://powdercoatguide.blogspot.com/...ete-guide.html
Thanks, this is my first post btw, so its' nice to meet everyone.

The reason I ask about powder coating, is that I started a how-to blog on powder coating. If any one is interested, I'd be happy to post the link.
It definitely explains the equipment needed and ovens. Honestly, for smaller parts(smaller than a 20" wheel) you dont need all that much.

Please send us the link. I would love to see more.
Has anyone had their calipers powder coated? I want to get mine redone but people tells me it is such a big job to remove the internals that it is not worth it.
Thanks in advance

Updates will continue frequently on new powder coating topics. If you have any requests for topics(like calipers), I can go ahead and do that topic first.
I will be updating my facebook page every time I make a new post so if you want to Like it, you will be alerted. https://www.facebook.com/PowderCoatingTheCompleteGuide

It is not any more of a big job than powder coating an alternator or a starter, everything has to come apart to powder coat, which is not such a bad thing. Great for cleaning and refreshing everything at once. If you do track your car at all, the powder coating may get burnt, ceramic would be the best long-term option for road racing cars. Powder coating holds up fine for normal use where your brakes are used to the max every 10 seconds. It is definitely worth it over other paints in my opinion, it just has way more durability and gloss levels that can't be touched by spray paints.
. I am currently doing the same for my 3000GT and it gets me excited knowing that it will be a white-glove build when done because of all the powder coating. Ceramic is another topic that I hope to get into soon.
Great to hear that people are interested. I posted it a couple posts up. I am also all about DIY. Sometimes its not even about saving money, every skill learned is another skill I have under my belt

I have coated several calipers. On the site, I have a couple pics of 2 piston calipers coated red. I have a set of 4 piston calipers apart that I will be coating for my car. Would you like me to make a video on how to disassemble them?
I would love to see a video of you dissasembling a caliper.
Also, it is not just about dissasembling. It is also to get all the holes pluged that the poweder do not enter into it. What did you use. Perhapes you can show the dissambly and preperation?
Regards
Luke

Just keep this in mind for masking. If you can remove your mask easily without disturbing the powder on the part, the mask does not have to go in the oven with the part.
Masking for media blasting is the important thing here. You do not want to accidentally blast the piston bores in your caliper. I first mask the bores with blue painters tape, and then several layers of duct tape over the blue painters tape and still never blast at the bores directly.
