New person question, what is X50? Is that an engine code?

I ask because I, too, just bought an 02. It, however, has a new (used) engine in it because the last one broke/blew up, not sure. I'm waiting to hear from the original owner what happened.

The engine was (re)installed by the Porsche dealer here in Boise after a shop up in Portland screwed it up.

I got the car at a cheaper price, so that's why I sprung for it.

X50 was an option code. Standard K16 turbos replaced with the K24s and larger ICs from the GT2. HP went from 415 to 450, torque from 415 to 467. It was a $17,800 option!

Hmmm... everything I've ever read in books and on the net (including the Wiki articles on 996 and on 911 in general that I just looked up) said 450hp.

And yeah, I've got the laminated window sticker on my bookshelf. It might not have been 17,800 exactly, but it started with a "17" and ended real close to "18."

choose your internal motor porsche mechanic wisely. IMO dont pick someone that has done less then 20+ of these motors and will put in writing when you get your car back.

thanks all

I think the smartest move is to buy a used motor and install. I didn't buy this car for an investment, I bought it to drive till the wheels fall off so I don't care if resale is hurt. Will advise of the outcome.
