Downsides to upgrading Bose PCM2 Nav System

Hi -

I've seen in multiple places that if you replace the PCM system to go to an aftermarket solution like Alpine, some stuff that the PCM thing did, you can no longer do (like control some functions). Can anyone shed some light on this? What do you lose by replacing the PCM system?

No issues. Upgraded to Kenwood system with no loss of function.

Why Kenwood? (Over alpine, pioneer, etc.)

Long experience with Kenwood with no issues. I like there NAV better than Pioneer or Sony. The Alpine is nice. Using the Kenwood with a Mcintosh amp, WAY better than using the internal amplifiers.
