V noisy LWFW
V noisy LWFW
Looking for a few ideas here,
I had an uprated Sachs 890 clutch fitted with a LWFW a few months ago by a specialist. I was expecting it to be noisy from what I researched and it was.
However I've since had the car in with a tuner who is highly regarded and fits plenty of these kits. He was servicing and mapping my car and noted that the LWFW is VERY noisy, he initially thought there might be a problem with it, so they drained and replaced the gearbox oil to inspect it, however there was no abnormalities with it. He was reluctant to take out the gearbox due to the labour involved.
So all we know is the LWFW is VERY noisy, the loudest he has heard by a long shot but there's no fragments in the oil.
Is there anything that could have been missed during instalment that would result in making it extra noisy?? It really doesn't sound healthy, LOUD metallic/friction sound. Were pretty stumped as to what it might be and I'm a bit reluctant to ask the original specialist to open it up if there is nothing wrong with it.
So is there anything you can think off?? Or has somebody had this issue with a LWFW that they managed to sort out due to an error in fitment??
I understand these are noisy, but as said this is noticeably louder than any other the tuning company have come across or fitted
Thanks

welcome to the world of LWFW
I will try and get a video of it.
Just had two new RSS Tarmac series engine mounts fitted, running standard transmission mounts.
Yea if the tuning company had not have said its very noisy I would have thought it was the normal, as I know they are noisy by nature, however they have a lot of experience fitting these and they commented on how loud it was.

Stiffer/urethane mounts lead the noise to chassis and it'll be amplified inside the cabin. I have Wevo engine mounts and DIY urethane transmission mounts and the rattle inside is obnoxious. Outside it's not that bad at all. Oh, Cup car shifter and cables don't help either...

i had a lwfw on my previous 996tt and have one now on my 997tt. The chatter is significantly louder than a stock fw...some folks describe it as shaking a can of marbles.
So recently I had an Aasco LWFW installed, Sachs Racing Clutch, Porsche Motorsports remaining clutch assembly parts, Numeric shifter, and CUP Cables. I also have RSS engine mounts, as well as GMG tranny mounts. The noise is like nothing anyone has ever heard before….we all have been struggling with this issue. I noticed the sound would dissipate once I turned the AC blower fan off. Also notice it would just about disappear when the AC was completely turned off. All of the above writings seem to verify this is what we are hearing….maybe this is just normal for this type of set-up…????….
The noise is only noticeable once the car is up to temperature, AC on, and when the car is in neutral.

So unfortunately, between work, travel, and vacations, I haven't had any time to drive my car since all the new goods have been installed. Although last week Friday I did have time to run a few errands with the beast and once she got warmed up in traffic the tranny started making a horrible rumbling noise, similar to that of a small stone tumbler. Stopped by the race shop, they took a listen and pulled the tranny out and shipped it out to Bill Rader Motorsports located in Las Vegas. He received the tranny earlier this morning, dyno tested it and then opened it up. Failures do not seem to be too terrible or costly, but the tranny will be repaired and shipped back out to CA tomorrow, installed back in the car Thursday and ready for testing at Sonoma this weekend. The worst part about this is we had this weekend set aside to test and fine tune the new suspension. Thankfully I was able to realize something was seriously wrong with the tranny before we left and BRR was able to get it resolved in a timely manner.
Bob/Cannga: Regarding tranny fluid….quoted from BRMS below:
"You cannot go wrong with the Delvac that is all I use in the cup cars and RSRs.
All of the blackness I could see on the inside walls of the gearbox was probably from the original oil the box came from then.
One thing to keep in mind with this car/box is that the oil will get a little more punished on a track use car due to the fact that it has no oil cooler."
Bob, we had put Delvac in at the start of the season, the car has seen 3,000 track miles since we changed the fluid in May, therefore due for a refreshing nonetheless. I'll have a full report of all the internal failures soon. I'll post them once I receive the final invoice.
Last track day was June third…looking forward to this weekend…I think I'm going through withdraws…although I can confirm, my bank account has seen some rather serious withdraws over the last two months, and I haven't even driven the vehicle during that time frame. Lets not forget, new rubber is needed as well for the up coming weekend.....

It is the norm with ac on and hot transmission it goes louder
REMOTE: This is an older video I shot the very first time I noticed all the additional noise once the vehicle was warm. I did not turn the AC OFF when I took this video...AC WAS ON...I just played with the fan speed. Also I discovered the AC OFF option earlier this week and had the shop listen as well....haven't shot video yet with AC off...I'll try soon.
