Air bag cover removal on door panel?

Greetings everyone,

So I have recently decided that my graphite grey interior would look much better with some more black accents to match the radio, vents, carpets etc etc. I have located a set of black C2 door panels and want to cannibalize them for the airbag cover and a few other goodies. My question to you all is how difficult is the removal of the airbag cover on my current door cards? I have been searching but apparently no one has attempted this.

Thanks guys!

Hey thanks, the part I am most concerned about is once the door panel is removed how do I go about swapping the actual airbag cover (the leather bit where the airbag button is) from the donor doors.

The best part is I am deployed overseas until this fall so I will have all of these black trim pieces sitting in boxes at home until I get back

i'm totally confused by the ? since the airbag cover comes off and i'd guess you just r&r swap em out!? so the mixed news is i'll probably still be here and still not be able to further assist when you are back stateside... lol

but i applaud and commend your service and active duty. cheers.

I believe once you get the door panel off you can see from the back how they are removed. Make sure you wait about 30 min after battery is disconnected and touch ground to body of car with your hands to discharge static electricity before handling bags= I have seen side air bags go off even as the seats are being removed from car with battery disconnected.

Haha I guess I am doing a pretty bad job explaining what I mean. It appears as if there are a number of possibly plastic rivets? on the inside of the door panel that hold the leather airbag cover in place. My question is how difficult is it to remove the leather covers from my current doors (grey) and replace that cover with the ones from the door panels I picked up (black).

Also, thank you for the kind words as well, its my pleasure.

Try to gently work the rivets/connectors out? Hopefully someone who has done it will chime in.

it is you that deserve the thanks, but sure

near as i remember..all that stuff just pops off. it looks more daunting than it is. plus once and the more you begin to open your car up?.. the more "986boxterlike" it becomes. prepare for that lol
