How rare is the Ruf RTurbo?
Does anyone know how many Ruf RTurbos there are, approximately? I'd be interested to know the breakdown of those inside vs outside the US, the number of Ruf Vinned vs Converted and the number of US conversions vs Germany conversions. Just curious how rare these things really are?
Heres 2 993s, doesnt answer your questions but always nice to see whats for sale

I am referring to 996 RTurbos (the 993 was the Ruf Turbo R)
RTurbos occasionally pop up, here is a 2003 RTurbo conversion:

I know there are a handful of people on this board who have one... and there are 7 cars listed on the Ruf Registry.

Most years, Ruf doesn't build more that 30 vin numbered cars, all types of cars. As far as conversions go, it does make a difference if Ruf did the work or if an independent did it with Ruf parts. There obviously are significantly more conversions than Ruf vin numbered cars.
In order for a car to be recognized by RUF as a "Rturbo", the conversion has to involve the 520, 550, or 590 engine conversion and can only be performed at a RUF authorized facility which will issue the proper documentation. The conversion includes a write protected RUF ECU (mated to your VIN by RUF) that can not be flashed unlike a Porsche ECU. Call RUF and they can tell you how many RUF vin or authentic conversions are out there.

RUF is not famous for getting back to people quickly and I doubt they have the numbers at their fingertips. I have been to Pfaffenhausen a few times and everything there goes at their speed. Fabulous cars and good people, just on a speed all their own.
I wouldn't bother with RUF in Germany. Just like you say. Mike Melville at RUF USA might have that info. Super helpful guy.

Seen this today while dropping off a wrecked Porsche race car, along with a dozen other true race cars at a Porsche racing teams compound today. Must be nice.
I have a 2002 996 with the 520 conversion with RUF documentation. At the time they flew a mechanic out who did a car in LA then flew to the Bay Area and did mine at the dealership where the car was purchased.
