Spoiler warning light. Micro switch?
Spoiler warning light. Micro switch?
Hi!
Yes i have search but i's information overload!
My spoiler still goes up and down fine ( its a bit noisy on the way down) after a bit the light come on. This happen both when its go up or down.
I have check and no leak. My mechanic think its the motor giving up.
But this seem like a micro switch problems?
Thx guys.

My only experience with any spoiler error was the light coming on when I would accelerate past the deployment speed just barely and then slow down right away. The spoiler still worked fine but the light would occasionally come on after this sequence, then go away when the car was turned off and restarted later. I attributed it to operator error as everything seemed to be working fine. This was on my previous car - 01 TT.
Good luck with your search for more info - there is a ton on this topic.

If you remove the micro switches and press on them while removed, you should trigger the "Failure, Spoiler control" light on the dash. The ignition must be on. The micro switches are located on the passenger side ram. Underneath a "*****" shaped cover. The switches are screwed into the ram outer housing by 4 small torx screws. Three are visible from the outside and one is in the slot in the middle of the carrier. If the switches work, it is my guess that the rams have leaked a bit and that is triggering the light. The rams only hold about 5ml of fluid, so even a small amount lost could be significant.
Based on your symtomes its not your microswitch. A microswitch failure would result in not signaling your spoiler to go up or down. Since your spoiler is moving it sounds more in line with a slight fluid leak causing the rams to be slightly our of sync.
Hi
Just fixed this for a customer.
Step 1: See if the rams are leaking by taking off the clips on the bottom.
Step 2: If they are not leaking then bleed the system, there is a procedure for this.
Step 3: If You are still getting this error then it is the motor itself like previously mentioned.
My customers complaint was that at high speeds the error light would go on, but spoiler was functioning fine. The Rams cannot hold up the spoiler if the motor is weak or if there is a leak under load, therefore it sets the fault.

I've taken this system apart a few times. I haven't had this specific issue but it does not look complicated... There are only two micro switches. One says the spoiler is up, the other says the spoiler is down. One of those micro switches must be on and one off any time the spoiler comes to rest. I would conclude that the spoiler warning comes on when the signal to move has been sent, but the corresponding micro switch does not get set. The motor itself only has two leads - Power and ground - so the motor has no feedback to the computer to indicate any status.
The only way to get a warning/failure when the spoiler is still moving is low fluid or a bad micro switch. The fluid is really thin - you may not see it if it is leaking. Make sure you remove the lines and look inside to make sure you are topped up fully.

low fluid in the rams is the cause of most spoiler cels and malfunction. agree on try a refill/bleed. it's actually funny because if you're mechanically inclined, you ( just not me ) can fix it in an hour or two for some lucas stop leak and pentosin. porsche however will still! recommend an $1800.00 R&R. a good solid re-bleed of the rams has been working as it should now for going on three years.
