2004 911tt winter driving?
2004 911tt winter driving?
I have a 911tt convertible that I bought a few years ago with about 15k miles on. I have tried to baby it - drive it during the summer, kept clean, and so on.... but more and more I ponder some winter driving - I live in Northeast Ohio - a little cold, snow comes and goes.... sometimes lots of salt...... what about tires?
a little low to the ground - but the all wheel drive sounds appealing?
thoughts on the topic?

I had a similar decision... preserve and baby the car forever? Or, just drive it. Decision made and I'm really enjoying my 996tt this winter. Some winter tires and it goes like stink. Doesn't do great in thick snow due to clearance but highly recommend driving it in light powder or clear conditions.
Not sure about the cab without hardtop - sure others will chime in.
You absolutely need some winter tires to enjoy.

I drive mine snow or not. It drives like a tank in the snow. I have snow tires on the stock rims for the winter. Not too much salt here. You should see the look on the 4X4 truck drivers faces when you take off in the snow at a light!
I have an '04 TT cab as well. My car has 25K miles and has never been driven in rain or snow. It looks brand new underneath. I do my own work and like it totally free of rust, corrosion, road salt and road grime residue. I have a Subaru XV for the DD needs. My Turbo is for dry days only or about 345 days a year here. I'll drive in the cold but not in the snow. I have driven lightly in packed snowy parking lots a couple of times which was OK.
A car thats driven in the winter will never be the same car.
Winter beats the crap outta everything and ruins it.
I ran a Cayenne Turbo last winter. It is THE BEST possible vehicle you can drive in bad weather.

I drive my car all year around in Chicagos winters.
I use Conti DWS all season tires in 295/35/18 and 245/40 18 which are fantastic , plus they are a larger diameter so I am higher for clearance..

Just an opinion here, do love your car or just like it?
Is the car a tool or a passion?
Is this car "the one"
Northeast Ohio dumps TONs of salt and salt brine on the roads. There is no question it will have an effect on the car. If the car is a tool that you will use up and get another one in a few years then go for it.
But if you really love your car you wouldn't even ask the question.
