We're not talking about an "ab blaster" that cost $40.00 off an info commercial.
These kits run into the tens of thousands of dollars.
If the norm is deception then it needs to be changed. I'm not on a trust fund and
I've worked very hard for every dime I have. I'm sure most of the folks here are
just like me.

Me thinks there could be a rating thread, whereby members could rate their
experience with the vendors and other shops. Of necessity there would be
some stringent criteria for posting. You wouldn't be able to bash a company
over personality oriented stuff or you couldn't be a shill for a given company.
A few simple rules in place to minimize abuse.
LOL this idea is probably about as realistic as 800 hp k16s! And I'll most likely
be banned for suggesting such.

I dont know how companies get away with this, problem is every dyno reads different and some strange altitude and inlet temp settings followed by a bit of photo-shopping can result in a very impressive graph, personally I think the only true test is a mile run or 60-130 etc, but ive noticed a certain company appears to have one of these when it comes to cold hard performance figures

! And yep, performance numbers are more objective thandyno numbers.
Funny thing is, it's reality……..so my comment isn't an argument, its a reality……that you are obviously learning first hand I take it? lol
i.e. EVOMS quoted the guy I picked my car up from that their headers make an additional 50hp alone lol…….do you want me to continue going?
i.e. Horsepower Freaks………Who runs pure Meth AND race gas combined, lol…..
i.e. AMS……...

broke records in their respective weight classes. However, I wound up replacing
a bunch of Chinese crap on my first build......before I knew better.
You posed a counter viewpoint to my assertion that a company was grossly
misrepresenting a product. Technically yours was an "apologist" position and
that is a form of argument. It's actually the definition of argument.
Interestingly enough, you continue with the same illogical premises. Your stance
is, " This is reality. This is the way we've always done it and this is the way it
will always be."
Objectively, the more compelling subject is, the phenomenon of members who
rationalize or outright defend these companies behavior.
The definition of con man comes from the old west. It refers to a person who first
gains your confidence and then takes advantage of you. Much like XYZ company
that post impressive 1/4 mile or 1 mile numbers and then proceeds to sell
"kits" and or "power packages" with ridiculously inflated numbers. Sometimes
they don't tell you that you have to build your engine when you buy their products
and sometimes they outright lie about it.
I own a sales marketing business and I have NEVER lied to a client or customer in
25 years. I employee hundreds of salespeople and I've fired dozens of people over
the years for lying.
Almost 10 years ago now in the final of a quite large event I beat a '1200hp' Supra in my mere 700hp Supra, the other firm were a tuning firm from scotland that had had their car in various magazines quoting they built it (imported it as a drag car from Japan and added a Motec) and it was 1200hp, they were pitted next to us and there was a large crowd milling about, the other driver was just walking around saying I dont understand its 1200 hp (think a Mel Gibson accent in Braveheart) I shouted over 'must be different horses in Scotland, he wasnt happy !!!!

A very well known company advertises up to 800 hp on k16 billets. The company that offers 800 hp k16 based turbos has yet to show any evidence to the effect.
It just blows my mind when a company can outright misrepresent a product like this and get away with it because they've posted good numbers on other applications. It pisses me off.

No, my current build exceeded my expectations and the 2 builds before this one
broke records in their respective weight classes. However, I wound up replacing
a bunch of Chinese crap on my first build......before I knew better.

LOL……….first off, I wasn't posting a counter view point, I was AGREEING that companies post "improper" dyno numbers per say, that don't work in real world applications.
Also in the "real world" "reality" people lie, cheat and steal. Its a daily occurrence that's sad and I was agreeing with you shouldn't occur, but can be avoided.
The sad part is these companies are looking for rich suckers that are too lazy to do research or honestly just don't care because they say "I want this" and guess what, "they get that."
It's SUPPLY and DEMAND economics…..the problem is the Equilibrium is TOO HIGH!!!
Fyi, a Argument is a Debate…….NOT an agreement. I was just stating that you need to come to the realization that this happens and happens OFTEN in the car "performance" part of the industry. Also, if you have been in the car "modding" scene for a while on a lot of platforms, it shows face on basically all of them. Performance is what speaks, and whats the easiest way to show that, is by the NUMBERS…….
Like I said earlier, this is just reality……..

I hope you can understand why I interpreted your post they way I did. After
your qualification, I see what your saying! Sorry for the confusion.
Im in the call center biz and as you know, the telemarketing business has a
terrible reputation. According to experts, telemarketers have a special place
reserved in hell along with criminal defense attorneys, pedophiles and
used car salesmen.
My operations have always been compliant, honest and forthright. I'm a big
believer in the energy you put out equals the energy you get back. And
being honest makes for personal satisfaction, long term relationships and
ultimately, better revenues.
Caveat emptor.
In my experience, most companies will do whatever they can to sell their products, sometimes using deceitful methods to gain an edge. Questionable dyno charts of certain products are one example of this.
In the end though, I believe it's ultimately the buyer's responsibility to make sure he's getting his money's worth, and that's done through research and finding out from people who have already done business with a particular vendor. I'm not making excuses for that type of behavior by sellers, but it's simply easier to watch your own back rather than trust a company at face value.
