Slave cylinder replacement

Is it possible to change the clutch slave while not removing the transmission? Can you lower it enough to reach on top?

yes. its a major pain but it can be done. lower the motor on the back 2 mounts as far as you can then lower the trans from the support until you can reach up there.

watch the shift cables, the electrical harness and the main water lines so don't go to far down.

use a rubber strap wrench to remove the accumulator its much easier than trying to get a wrench in there.

zmt is infamous around these parts
Yeah, the DIY was a big help. Make sure you cover up the rubber lines to protect them from the pentosin.

Worth it to remove the starter so you can make sure you line up the piston correctly as well.

It's a PITA, but it's worth it when you're done. might as well do Tim's BB mod too while you're in there!

Really happy if this DIY is useful. Good luck with this job! Two good things to remember, do not miss the clutch fork with the shaft of the slave and also be sure your bleed the system properly!

when bleeding the system squeeze a small 2 ft piece of clear tubing on the bleeder and run it into a container. petosin is lethal to rubber and f you spray it all over bleeding you will end up with more issues down the road

Done, worked great!! thanks again Jp! and everyone else with all your suggestions. I used a power bleeder and it went fast.

It was absolutely a PITA but not terrible. It went quick. Making sure the shaft is in the fork was a treat to say the least. Holding tension and getting the mounting bolts was super fun. That first ridged line was a blast too. I only wish my fingers and wrists were skinnier, lol..

quick question, I haven't driven the car since last fall so, I am not sure if I am imaging things or what??

Everything is stock but I have a new slave and accumulator. I bleed it with a power bleeder and flushed through 2 1/2 tanks of fluid to purge the old fluid(tank never went dry and I never see bubbles).

My question is, it seems I have 1" free play in the pedal before the pedal feels like it is pushing in the master. Is that normal? I can't remember? It runs drives and the clutch engages, etc. like normal. I just have this little bit of free play.
