MICHI PS 2 VS MICHI Pilot Sports
MICHI PS 2 VS MICHI Pilot Sports
my dilemma is i have new rears in ps2's and only need fronts. while i'm tired of paying the premium for ps2's i will continue.
so my question is: can anyone see a downside or difference btw the ps2 and the super sport which while less expensive appear to have a similar tread pattern as the ps2!?
i'm wondering if i'd notice any difference running a ps2 rear with super sports up front.

VS the old proven standby http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes
then there are the ps3's?
add: they don't seem to make the pilot sport in 315 30 18 bummer.
any thoughts are appreciated. thanks.

The Pilot Super Sport is a more modern tire with noticeably more grip. You will definitely have more over-steer at the limit with PSS's front and PS2's rear. Given the the typical under-steer setup of the 996TT, you will probably be fine.

thanks. i think im gonna give the pss in front a try. can't be that much different.
DONT DO IT!! When I first got my car, the original owner had purchased 1, yes one, PSS for the front. The car handled like garbage and scared the crap out of me while taking a sweeping interstate off ramp and the PSM kicked in! I purchased a second new PSS to match the other front while running the 315 ps2 in rear. PSM constantly engaging on minor cornering. I was thinking these Porsches handle terribly..lol I then purchased a different set of rims with all ps2's. After installing them I never had the PSM light on and I can fly around the same exit ramp! I actually bought a new set of 235's/315's PS2 for my original rims and they are awesome! I assure you, it's not wise the mix the two!

is it possible you entered that offramp a bit too hot?

i appreciate the info. i'm thinking given my rwd though it might not be an issue.
I thought I was clear. It had one new one and I put on the other one new. The guy just put it on two days before I got the car. I drove it with mixed tires for a couple months. It handled terribly in every situation even with PSM off. It handles like it is on rails now. I would turn the wheel and it would not respond as I thought it should. Now it is a blast to drive. I can only tell you my experience driving around with mixed tire compounds for a couple months of not knowing better. It was not fun. Good luck, I can't wait to hear your findings.
yes, you were clear. what i was trying to say was given i am rwd there is not the same degree of sensitivity front to rear that exists when the car is awd.
my point is that running the same sized 235-40 pss X the ps2 rears won't create a rolling diamter issue. so my question was really more related to any difference caused by the minute difference in tread pattern = pss front X ps2 rear.
i'm still thinking per steves suggestion above, it will be fine.

My bad...I can tell you without a doubt that the overall feel of the tires is completely different. I wish the PSS was made in 315 strictly for the longevity, but the PS2 is way stickier...IMHO...Good Luck!
I have a 2009 Boxster and just replaced the rear tires with Michelin Pilot super sports. The front tires are Michelin Pilot sports which will be replaced with super sports when then require changing.
So far the car rides great with no issues.
That said I have not driven the car very hard yet since the tires are new.
Also the 911 may be more sensitive to tires compared to the Boxster.

Go to Michelin's website and sent them a message asking them to make the PSS in 295 or 315/30 sizes. I've done it several times, I bet if more Porsche owners did this, they'd consider making them. Stock of old PS2's is dwindling at this point.
Look, all I have to work with here is MY observation with the tires. The question was asked about mixing two different types of tires. I answered from MY PERSONAL observation with MY 996 TT. I'm sorry if that does not align with the "data". I would love to buy something different, but so far the PS2 works for my driving style. The front of my car was not "planted" with the PSS'. Maybe because my rears were PS2. I have 2 sets of rims I swap between (depending on mood..lol) and both are 235/35 19's for front and 315/25 19's for rear. When I removed the PSS and put on the PS2's on front to match rear, it is a different car and is planted. It seems every time I voice my observations on a subject I get shot down and told how wrong I am. I think I will refrain from now on. Have a good one!

.. having said all that, you were running 19's awd and different tires and all bets were off right there. of course it got squirelly! lol. just kiddin
You're the only one that can attest to how they felt on your car.
