looking for winter tires. question

I started to poke around for winter tires. Im going to use oem wheels. Ones i mount them it be my winter set because next year im going with aftermarket wheels.

Im confused. About rear winter tires. Says 265 35 18. But how the hell can you fit 265 on 11 wide wheel

Im thinking to go with 235 35 18 front and 275 35 18 rear will that work ?

You can't use the OEM rear wheels for winter wheels in that tire size, you'll have to buy another set of wheels. Not sure if you can come up with a little wider option that maintains the diameters or not, but that would be the only way to do it as far as I know. At least without stretching the tire an obnoxious amount to 'make it fit'

on 996 265 35 18 and 225 40 18 is perfectly fine.
Fit's 8 wide fronts and 11 wide rears.

I've read that 235/40/18 and 285/35/18 will work. Dunlop Wintersport comes in that size. It's a bit taller but the difference in diameter front front to rear is still ok. This is what I will be trying.

285 35 18 ?? must be a new size. if thats the case, thats a great tire size, i would do a 235 40 up front though. that rear tire is going to be tall... it might upset the abs systems (especially on snow/ice)

Andrew, "all season" is a bit of a misleading statement. they arent good for snow, but theyre ok for winter temps.
for winter you want a set of dedicated snow tires. for the other seasons, summer.

an "all season" tire is just a summer tire with more grooves in the tread and a harder compound.

Steve K thanks, I will not drive the Porker in snow but would like to drive in freezing temps... would the Pirelli P Zero All season be okay for that ?

EXACTLY what I've been preaching for a long time.

Typically a summer tire provides 80% of the wet performance of an all-season in the wet. I run my Pilot Sport 2's during the winter/rainy season- my r888 slicks in the summer, and when it snows/get icy- I don't take out the porsche...
