Crunching/Creaking front end?
CV boots
Now my less than scientific guessing has me believing it is only a torn CV boot.
Has anyone here ever had torn boots and do they just ( initially ) just "crunch" barely perceptibly, and do they sound like ( well..) torn cv boots!?
If anyone that has ever had this happen could input, it would b appreciated. I have yet to get under it properly but its a sound occurring while turning the wheel now, and is a new noise similar to CV boot noises I have heard before. Whether or not other connected parts also may need attention is at this point also unknown.
But this is my updated hunch.

I usually put on rebuilt axles but they are expensive I hear for the 996tt= never really looked lol. Cleaning and replacing boots unless found very quickly has rarely worked for me.
assuming that's the shock bearing plate you suggested upthread? would it be possible for the noise i'm describing to occur while the car is stationary yet simply turning the wheels? that doesn't seem to be shock or mount related. in fact, it minimally occurs ( or i hear it less ) while i'm actually driving. it sounds like rubber ( boot ) binding after a slight tear. if i had to guess!
i wouldn't think that bearing plate part to be impacted. do you know differently? ..and thx.

ok, will do..thx. but it isn't that kind of ( spring/mount/shock ) sound though worn mounts wouldn't come as a shock to me either. i dont usually throw parts, but for a c note I'm gonna throw boots at it, and grease em up. see if i can catch this before I've damaged the cv joints themselves.

the only time I've ever heard worn/torn cv boots is when turning the wheel(s!)
posted up in my thread, but #11 in the diagram above is what I was referencing. It is part number 996-343-501-00-M100.
Also agree on the mounts being shot. If you want to retain your current geometry Tarett makes an AWD strut mount (the one that cants backwards). I'm sure there are others too.
Of course there's always option C, go *****-out and convert everything... ;-)

thanks. mine is so slight noise wise as to be obviously in its incipient stage(s). barely perceptible. but i like to catch stuff early, especially since i *usually* need to *learn* what has gone wrong. y'all have talked me out of my cv boots idea. couldn't be that lucky anyway.... ha
my votes is on #11. CV boot is a close 2nd. I actually had this same diagnostic dilemma years ago (around 55k miles). It actually turned out to be BOTH in my case. The CV boots fixed part of the sound ( a ticking/crunching), but the creak/ground with turning the wheel persisted.
^^ finally. someone that at least thinks it *might* be a torn boot! thx tt. lol.
it's the quietest and most subtle crunch/creak I've ever heard. thats part of my confusion.
add: wait! what was the other fix beside the boot?!.. bearing plate #11. duh. got it. thx
