Coilover Upgrade - Supporting Parts for Street Car?
Tarett is an Ohlins dealer as well. Might as well just get everything from them (possibly).
I asked in another thread but didn't see an answer - why does the DFV model for 996 AWD cost almost $1k more than the DFV model for 996 RWD? Are both sets just 4 shocks and 4 springs, or does the AWD set come with something extra?
Other coilovers don't seem to do that (PSS10, KW, etc), in terms of a large pricing delta between RWD and AWD 996 configurations. So just curious.

Just no reason to spend the extra 1k if i'm just buying the same parts twice.
Been doing my research and spoke with Ohlins and Tarret and can report back with some information. Let me stress I still do not have parts in front of me to 100% confirm this so take it with a grain of salt.
The Ohlins GT2/GT3 kit re-uses the OEM F&R droplink brackets, and on the Turbo kit it includes new ones (as we do not have compatible droplink brackets on the 996TT). So you have two options:
So in theory you can get the GT3 kit, compliment it with missing equipment from Tarret for a savings of 560.00 and probably have better brackets and hardware that is all going to work together a bit nicer.
I'm all for saving 560.00 but a bit hesitant to be the guinea pig. What to do what to do....
Anyway - hope this helps future 6speeders.

I should also mention both kits reuse the OEM top mounts. From what i've found the GT2 and Turbo top mounts should be cross compatible but I cannot confirm that. Anyone know? That would be the only other thing that I think would cause issues if they were not compatible?
i dunno about any of the above..? but i'll tell you right now..beware the tarret top mount/camber plates. cos something aint exactly right fitment wise, out of the box. i notice they are conspicuously absent from your parts list. i'd keep it that way. scratch this.... sorry. seems i need coil overs for the tarett plates to fit properly..which renders my complaint moot, since this is your coil over parts thread.

How necessary do you think those solid thrust arm bushings are for a street car? I'll be picking up a set of adjustable toe links and locking plates and going with a GT2 alignment soon and am considering pwdrhound's suggestion about the thrust arm bushings. I'd like to do it right the first time and I know they are only $200, but I still don't want to throw money at suspension bits I'll never take advantage of.
Ohlins install manuals
Don't know if you guys have seen these, thought I'd post a link just in case.

but you'll be pleased with rss toe links or the TS ones. i have just put on my torque solution toe links and i'd say once i get them dialed in, they are a must have if you're "getting" serious. it will save me some of that toe issue on tread wear, as i'm already a bit lower than gt2 with roughly gt2 alignment specs. it's all about the toe ( i'm learning ) and the insane amount of squat i get when it's wot on twists.
exactly. probably not necessary at all, solid thrust arm bushings aren't a "must do"? any more than solid rear sub frame's are on a street car. not worth the noise and resonance i would think, and handling just gonna get rougher and rougher for the street. etc. that's track stuff? yeah..? not "street".
