996 turbo values
996 turbo values
Hi guys,
Watched an interesting video last night on Drive Tv's YouTube channel regarding vehicle values for the upcoming year (link posted at bottom of post.) They touched on the 911 market being hot like a pistol and then the subject of 996 turbos came up towards the end of the video...Rob Sass of Hagerty insurance said he sees values rising in the near future for 996 turbo...going as far as to say the car is "criminally cheap."
I agree with his assessment that the 996 turbo is great value for money, but I can't really see 996tt's being of higher value than say a 997tt....but I may be wrong... I'm watching all of these early 2000's cars creep up in value slowly....I.E. Chevy C5Z's and NSX's. I think it's a very stable market but don't know if their will be any kind of major increase in values. What are your thoughts on 996tt values for the next couple of years?

I think the market will take off soon. There is a lot of buzz hitting the intarwebz about the 996tt and it is similar type of talk that was going on in the 930 world a couple of years ago.
I don't think the prices will go hockey stick like the 930 but I do think we will see appreciation.

It is just my personal opinion based upon my observations over the last 30 years but I think there is a greater potential for all of the turbos to appreciate at a higher rate than NA 911's. I have a 911 SC and a 996TT. My 911SC value was stable and it is finally on the way up now but only worth about what it cost new about $35k. However, my buddy who still has his 1981 turbo with under 2k mi paid in the $50 k range, well we know the story about that he can get triple that now. So the bottom line is that the relatively low production of the turbos will ultimately bring up the value, especially for the turbos with the Metzger engines. I had an opportunity (but not the funds) from a Ferrari dealer friend to buy an F40 for under $200k in 1988 who knew what that would be worth now. There are many variables to consider. It is a crazy market. What do you think the value of older gasoline powered Porsche's will be when most of the cars on the road will be electric?
How many 996tt were brought to the states and how many were produced world wide? It has to be quite a fair amount. I think the people who lusted for a 996tt when they came out are now probably closer to a point where they can afford/justify having one, which I think will dry up the market and adjust the price upwards slightly, however as far as a future collectible I just don't see it unless it's a very uniquely optioned car (x50, pccb, full interior spec'd out, etc.) I think what dictates value on cars partly is A. production numbers and B. how many well preserved examples their are of that make and model; with a semi high production to begin with and the fact most people who own 996tt take good care of them, I don't foresee their being a shortage of them later on. I think 996 turbo S coupe (which I had one) will bring a pretty penny in the near future, and of course their are the GT3 and GT2 which are no brainer appreciating assets. But like you said, values on this kind of thing are very unpredictable in the long run.
I'm sure it's been shared before, thread was mostly posted for people to share and enjoy the video and if anyone wanted to chime in they could...thanks

Here's my comment from the other posts
I think 996TT's are holding their values well over the last couple of years, but he's 5-10k off on price. A 35k 996tt is gonna have high miles, accidents or too many useless mods etc., Most of what I've seen is in the 40's at least even for an 01.
I think the rising of the air-cooled prices is whats going to keep us level, I don't think 996tt's will be appreciating anytime soon tho but compared to when I was looking a couple of years back, 997's are still depreciating.

I like the idea of the prices stabilizing but I always remind myself that the real "appreciation" associated with Cars is measured in value of driving and using them as they were intended.
Just my thoughts.

I highly doubt this... the 993 is the last of a legacy, and I don't think they made 993 turbos in the same quantity that they made the 996 turbos.
What do you think the 993tt values are, there are some fetching easily 150-200k. The most used 993tt is still over 100k.
The average are bringing 130k that's 65k for a 996tt which I believe they will be bringing in 5-10 years for a low mileage well kept car. People can ask 200k and a really well equipped low mileage 993tt might bring that but it would be rare.
