I tried that before I dis-assembled and taped the plunger down as per my previous post. So the question remains, why doesnt it work now?

I've been on my back under there about 20 times it all looks legit; everything hooked up etc. I'll check a fuse too, I assume there is one. Thanks

Put a Durametric on it and read the codes, mine is currently throwing a code for the top clutch switch <shrug>

Fit a weak spring on the clutch pedal to help it return to the fully topped out position and remove any lash. This should make the pedal and switch relationship same as with the booster spring. You may also want to meter the wires going to the switches, key off, key on, then disconnect the wires and meter the switches with the pedal depressed and topped out.

i just dont get all the fussing with the switch for a stiffer feel?! do the gt2 conversion if you want a properly stiff clutch and engagement. i have no issues with mine in spite of the fact i just eliminated the need to engage the clutch to START the car. beyond that my engagement points as well as action and clutch feel are are fine, if not a bit "assisted" lol

i just dont get this spring removal deal. but y'all do,.. so ignore my comments sorry lol

You can read 32 pages of posts here,

hoping, you'll get it. LOL I still haven't done my Turbo yet, I think it may make a bigger difference in the NA 996's, 986's and that difference is huge!

I don't understand why it's called an assist spring since near as I can tell it made the clutch HARDER to depress on my car. It also seemed to be pulling the pedal UP right at my slip point which meant I got the pleasure of stalling often leaving lights! A friend who drives a stick daily also had issues and she refused to drive my car. Removed the spring and it feels more like a normal clutch and I stall it far far less. My hydraulic booster thingy is also likely toast - the accumulator. Pushing in the clutch to start is a bear but it's easy once fired <shrug>

I'll go GT2 at first opportunity but I'm not yanking the transmission just to do it.

I did this to my 996C2 and it made clutch engagement much more precise. I left it in on the Turbo because the pedal doesn't seem as vague as the C2.

FYI, pedal pressure is much heavier without the spring. My girlfriend can't drive the 996C2 in stop/go without the spring because the clutch pedal pressure hurts her leg (110lb girl).

for sure, it's toast. it'll stay bad for a good long while absent issue beyond the stiff clutch at startup, but I think given its connectivity to the slave, it's only a matter of time before that also shows imminent signs of failure.

I tried this mod on my TT last night, and drove in the canyons for a test. I honestly can say I didn't notice much of a difference. The real test is when I'm stopped at a light on an up hill, top down, radio blasting and can't hear the motor. Will I be able to easily feel the pressure point of engagement of the clutch?

We'll see, and I'll report back. My initial thoughts are the accumulator masks more of the "feel" than removing the pedal assist spring. This mod makes an enormous difference in a NA car and is an absolute must do mod, in the Turbo so far it is moot.

completely agree with all you've said. the only time I have any ambiguity with my clutch is when radio is on 11 and I cant hear where I am with it as I disengage the clutch. but in 7 years I can count the times i've inadevertently dropped the clutch. it's ALWAYS in heavy traffic and my left leg just says fug it LOL.

don't ya love it when ya know they're honking and laughing at ( not with ) you as you re-start the car ordinarlily and on flat surface I just let out the clutch slowly and NO gas. works for me. I also double clutch a lot! maybe that's why my trans guy said all parts looked as NEW?!

old habits die hard. I learned on a crash box dodge power wagon 50 yrs ago lol

I was saying a while back how this set up takes some getting use to and some stalling/restarting happens when first getting use to it= of course everyone said it has never happened to them and to that I say bs. I haven't tried playing with the spring but can see why people do.
