Short shifter slack

Hi guys, im having a bit of trouble with my pretty sloppy gearstick.
After removing the centre console i see that the sideway slack is in the big white nylon/plastic piece.

Is there any remedy for this?
I filmed it and it can be seen at the very end here:

nevermind the front/back movement as this can easily be tightened from what ive just read.

Yes. The plastic bits wear out. Don't know the part number or if they are aftermarket bits but replacing them will resolve side play.

Thanks guys, i understand that numaric is the way to go, but there are several things id like to upgrade before that.

From the looks of it the white plastic piece is not swappable?
Ill remove the quick shift tomorrow and have a new look and see if there is any way to fix this.

I bought a cheapo off Ebay and there is the side play which is an OEM issue but the front to back there is zero slack. I would love to know more about a numeric shifter. I think I will search and see!

The white plastic piece has developed a slight impression from being rubbed from the metal ball of the shifter. You can fix it and it will work pretty well. Do this:

Remove the shifter from the car and put on a bench. Turn it sideways and look near that white plastic pivot point and you'll see a pin that goes through the shifter cage. Knock this out and pivot the plastic up as high as you can and it will just clear the outer cage.

Next mix up some JB weld and have it flow very lightly and smooth into the little recess, as you can build it back up to be flush and this will fix 90% of the left to right slop you are experiencing. I have done this to that exact shifter and it worked well. (I did only use it for a few months though so I can't comment on longevity, but was amazed it worked as well as it did).

You can also use plastic weld as it may be more durable. Take it apart and look at it and you'll see the white plastic is indented where it has been rubbing the shifter arm.

Good Luck!

Numeric still has a tad bit of side to side play as it is just the nature of the fitment Dan tells me. I'm actually waiting for him now for some closer machined tolerances on some parts to try and stiffen mine up.

But yes, the Numeric shifter is 1000000% better than OEM, or any other conventional SSK

as i see it..if you're not a madly committed diy'r? there are really only two ways to go.

the 997ssk ( which i'll just keep, as i have no issues ). or the numeric. as it's the best aftermarket one for our cars.

or if you're SERIOUS then by all mean give some thought to an SQS sequential ( up/down/baddas*. ) but that a BIG deal plus $$$, not a twenty minute in/out lol

as long as any shifter is in a plastic housing its going to be junk. remove the console have a buddy drive the car and watch this factory stuff flex as he bangs the gears. the billet housing of the numeric solves this issue. its not cheap but its the best shifter out there thats not in the 4 digit $ price range

Its not the B&M piece itself that is broken, its the OEM plastic piece that is worn, so i dont think B&M can help?
