Looking for tips on a clutch job 996 turbo
It's got a lot of good info for sure and much more to come. Hopefully help out other guys too.
Just some degreaser, a power washer and some elbow grease. Actually I used about 3 different types of degreasers, I've noticed some remove certain stains that others leave behind so I switch it up to get everything off.

ok men here is my opinion
the only way to go now since BBI Motorsports new release is this, get the sachs 2.5 u will love it, good for 650whp more than most us will ever need.
Dont do the "GT2 bodge it up with a hash mash of parts found from here there and everywhere job"
Buy instead BBI's latest slave invention and finally cure for once and all the 996t's famous slave fail issue and never worry about the damn thing again

I wouldn't call the GT2 conversion a hash mash of parts. It's all factory parts. Yes you mix some parts here and there, no different than any other brand of car I've worked on.
I actually did order a BBi slave initially because I was under the impression the GT2 slave conversion has a pedal height and engagement issue. The GT2 conversion was my first choice. I've since realized that's not the case so I reached out to BBi to cancel my pre-order so I could go back to the GT2 route I originally wanted.
the 764 and the 098 you'll be set. It's almost what I went with. I didn't know about the newer pressure plate that hound mentioned, but at the time, it was the highest torque load rated sachs stuff.
Hey, I noticed your other thread, you said you were going to do the LWFW...I believe the 1098 disc is a rigid non sprung hub.

Stock (well what came out car, need to compare part #s) on left, 1098 on right.
I got the Sachs 2.5 which is basically the 764 pressure plate and "098" disk which I'm not entirely sure what that is.

All good buddy each to his own but Im sticking with calling it the bodge up hash mash conversion I even bought one of them its still in the garage cupboard as I found plugging cut hydralic lines with a couple of old bolts and hose clamps not being up to the standard i required for my 996t.
While bolts in hoses with hose clamps I suppose does work its not to my standards either.
Hey the goods news is they are rated for more torque
Bright side right?
Seems like I say a steal of a deal on DMFW somewhere. Try EBS Racing...oh checked me email...it was a March special for like 575.

EBS is back in the $800s for the DMFW. I really want to do the lwfw option though now. The correct disk is another $520.... its just money right? lol
Ya, you'll always make more...
[QUOTE=pwdrhound;4353745]Why would you plug hydraulic lines that are no longer needed? You remove them as they are no longer needed. You install OEM parts. Nothing more, nothing less. You can't get any more OEM than that...[/Q

Hi hound how u doing?
The instructions that I have at home advise blocking the no longer needed hydraulic lines and simply leaving them in place
as they suggest it is an extremely difficult task to remove them effectively. Hence why I stayed with the 997.2 slave with which i have had few problems. But each to there own buddy, when its time to replace the slave ill upgrade to the BBI unit which in my opinion is a much better option than blocking outlets and removing parts from the powersteering unit and various other areas of my beloved 996t. If I recall correctly the bodge it up kit i was sent didnt contain any OEM parts all had been replaced by bodgy cheapo aftermarket knock offs. But each to there own hound if your happy with doing the upgrade Im happy to. Have a good day bud

Tim, I have no idea what kit you have. If you're doing it the OEM way, there is no kit available for that. You can do the OEM drill and tap way simply by removing TT parts including old hydraulic lines and installing GT2 parts, including the PS pump and reservoir. That's what I did. For those mechanically inclined that wish to save a few bucks, they can remove the coupler from the TT PS pump and retain the unit. It's the same as the GT2/tip version which does not come with the coupler. In the end you end up with the same system as installed by the factory on the GT2/3. Sure, you can take shortcuts and leave the old lines in place by using plugs, plugging the TT reservoir, etc. In that case, you end up with a bit of a butcher job. There is a right way to do it and there is also a half a** cheaper way of doing it. Up to each individual to decide what they want to end up with.

not having had a chance to see or drive one with this newer option since NO one but their tester has! ( the BBI unit ) it just seems the much cleaner way to accomplish essentially the same goal. separating the ps fluid from the clutch and ps res! if all else truly was/is equal? then i suppose that's all that matters. i've been struggling for years ( literally ) with my utter disdain/hatred of the stock setup balanced against my equal disdain for punching a hole in the case. since the bracket setup for me was never really going to be an option i could live with. so bought and installed slaves, and accumulators and more accumulators and well..
i'm just glad we have a newer seemingly well thought out option that looks ( at least to my untrained eye? ) a lot better than the other methods i have seen, granted only having a base understanding of what it was i was even seeing. i learn what i can, and then go with my gut, and my gut tells me the cleaner solution is this BBI unit. who really knows yet on this one. time will tell, but i was sure hoping that malcolm would be the first to install and report, given i AM able to understand his travails and reportage lol

They never answered my question about whether or not it can be rebuilt. All things equal I would do the factory GT2 set up but as I said before the bbi would fit my needs better. Know one will really know the real score until its fitted and ran for an extended period.
