Arrow **Time for Clutch and more...**

OK gents, the time has come for clutch replacement! My goal is 600 RWHP and I currently have the listed mods. I am leaning towards Todd’s UMW setup with RS 4.0 disc, 964RS LWFW, and 764 PP. In doing my research, and taking advantage of the engine out, I am planning:

Install 72 lb. injectors (on hand)
Install IPD 74mm Plenum and 997 TB (on hand)
Install Bosch 710N diverter valves (on hand)
Switch back to 3.8bar FPR
Replace coolant lines and weld connectors
Zip tie all vacuum lines and replace check valves (I believe there are 2)
Replace Water Pump (preventative)
Replace Serpentine belt (preventative)
Replace Oil Pressure sending unit (preventative)

I am also interested in replacing intake pipes and have done some research into the USP ones, which have extensive testing with positive results. However, they have been discontinued according to USP due to low sales. I’m hoping someone running them can give me some feedback. It appears AWD Motorsports still sells them.

Can the RMS be replaced with just the engine dropped, or does the transmission need to be out for that?

I’m hoping to find a shop with reasonable pricing in So Cal, who will let me do some of this stuff myself after engine drop, while they replace my clutch. Any suggestions?

Turbo and tune upgrade to 18G will follow thereafter.

Am I missing anything? Any input on this stuff would be appreciated!

that should be a perfect setup bo. you know where i'm at ( you know me? bolt on betty!? LOL ) and my stock clutch alone with gt2 disc is more than adequate to the task i ask of it. but i am super easy on clutches, always have been. last went 100k.

Fuel filter while you have the extra room. Plugs/coils if they haven't been done recently. Coolant reservoir. If your replacing clutch rms is easy.

Nice list. Good idea on welding those fittings.
FWIW, that clutch set-up does chatter a little. It's fairly minor, but it IS present. You'll notice the quicker revving too.

you can't drop the motor without dropping the trans so the trans does have to be separated to do the rms. also while doing the coolant fittings based on your mileage its a good idea to replace as many of the coolant lines as you can. same for the coolant tank if you haven't already. 5 minute job with the motor out. make sure the shop pressure tests each fitting before reinstalling the engine and look for pinhole leaks.
its also a good time for a new plenum and 75mm t/b if you haven't done it yet. not needed just easier when the motor is on a stand

764PP is out dated now. Sachs has a new higher clamping replacement that uses bolts instead of rivets, ala GT3 4.0 PP...

Nice one Mark! LED's will have to wait until the bank account is replenished after this project!

Thanks! Did fuel filter recently. Coils also switched to 997 ones. Plugs will likely be changed with new tune.

Thanks Derek! Research tells me this one chatters significantly less than most.

I did not know tranny has to come out too. So, I guess I will drop the preventative 2nd gear pop-out in there as well then. I also need to research the GT2 slave upgrade. Good to know on the RMS. I think you have my mileage confused with Mark's at 100K! I'm actually just shy of 40K. I am replacing my coolant lines and plenum/TB per my original post.

So, which PP do you recommend with the disc and FW I have listed?

i only have 45k on my engine. when it was out i found many of the coolant hoses were weakening. possibly due to age and weather conditions but it was infinitely easier to do when the engine was out. my coolant tank was starting to yellow and i grabbed a new tank maybe 2 yrs ago for 75$ so it was a good time to toss it in.

also if the trans is out its a great time to do pwderhounds weight removal off the shift linkages. like many others i had to drill mine out those darn allen bolts stripped in seconds! simply sat on a stool and drilled them out. found some new bolts and if i ever want to reinstall it takes seconds but those weights are heavy! its no wonder the shifter feels the way it does

Reviving this thread as I am FINALLY pulling the trigger. Sambo is the builder and we are doing his turbos and 1000cc injectors in addition to the mentioned upgrades. Switching to COBB as well, so 600 RWHP should be well within reach!

be curious to see if that setup he keeps you with the 3.8 instead of a 5 bar..or if this changes w/ the cobb tune and new turbos.

That will be a sweet setup! I just had my suspension redone. Coolant lines and maybe a minor tune next year .
