Coils and plugs

I have read a few threads and wondering if any one has any new or different test results on which plugs and coils to use with K16 billets, upgraded intercoolers, injectors, Markski's 1.4 bar tune for 100 octane, exhaust and catless. Oh and it's a Tip...modified but still a Tip. It's getting time to change the oil and I want to put the best that is out while I'm in there. Thank you in advance!

And I'm in Florida, so it's HOT!!

I just bought a similar set up from Sambo and he recommended the 997 coils and plugs. I installed them, but haven't finished putting the car together yet. I'll let you know how they work out.

Hey guys. I think we all agree that the 997 coils are the way to go. For plugs it's like Coke vs Pepsi. I like the factory's solution to moderate boost in the dual-staggered electrode Beru FR6-LDU plug from when the GT2 came out. It's actually been superseded as the standard plug now on all 996 turbo cars. I know a lot of tuners like the Denso, Markski included. I've had great results with that plug also. Especially on high boost applications with a tight gap.

997 coils have superseded the 996 part. until you go aftermarket coils like proefi or evoms thats all there is to use. for plugs its like oil everybody has their preference. single electrode copper plugs are the best for conductivity but require frequent changes. iridium don't conduct as well but last longer. pick your poison!

for the umpteenth time. when it comes to plugs second guessing porsche and their choice for the gt2 fr6ldu ( let alone the more expensive gt2rs plugs http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...ELIGNT_pg1.htm ) is a fools game. though many plugs will work.

the best go to plug that is pre gapped and many tuners swear by since there is nothing to "over"think, is the bosch 6 mentioned above.

this is the 74th time i have contributed ( parroted? ) this widely agreed on info lol

So is the EVOMS worth it? I don't mind changing plugs with the oil! I want the best most powerful and consistent spark.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was twisting your arm to make you post. I am very well aware of the 997 coils as that is what I am running now. As I stated, I was inquiring about anything new out or anyone's experience with anything else. In my business, things and products change daily and weekly. I'm not running a GT2. Thank you for your assistance.

the biggest baddest coils for the 996t is the proefi coils. 210 mj bigger than any coil sold for them. not plug and play. can be wired for the factory dme . evoms i think is plug and play but only 50 mj i think.

as for the plugs that porsche recommends they never in their wildest days thought this motor would routinely see 600+ hp at the wheels. factory plugs are good for factory specs. above that you need to see what the builders are running. just my .02

i never mentioned coils!? and i wasn't even addressing you specifically. in point of fact, i never really address any one in particular. or *rarely*, i should say.

one needn't drive a gt2 to avail oneself of the hotter gt2 plug, whether it has been for some time now, the superseded choice of porsche over the original oem ( 5 ) plug for the tt, or not.

but i now have addressed you personally. when it comes to plugs and these cars and which is "optimal", there ain't much new under the sun and no arm twisting is necessary for me to post. anyone here for 5 minutes, will know that lol.

i'd say you're welcome for my *assitance* but i detected a note of facetiousness, so, i'll let that one pass ( whoops, i didn't! ) either way, just trying to help regardless

actually,i think they did. look at gt2rs numbers vis a vis their plug choice. couple that with the fact that a couple/few simple bolt on mods'll get anyone to 500/575+ and you'll see the wisdom of running the hotter plug. they certainly did! or else they'd still recommend the 5 range plug! and they don't, in spite of the fact it was the OEM fitment when the 996 turbo was intro'd.

gt2rs is a completely different animal. and porsche wants their cars to stay the way THEY build them . simply put a motor that lays down 600 hp to the wheels requires a different plug than a motor that lays down 300 hp to the wheels. end of the day this is a motor . bigger the power the more plug you need. doesn't change from a porsche motor to a honda motor

*different* yet obviously related, no? but for what you say about "bigger power" needing a "different" plug doesn't really apply, at least in the example of one turbo powered porsche 911 over another ( factory supplied ) as there are not that many viable choices and they ALL are either in the 5/6 range.. or the equivalent. denso ngk beru borsch. i think you'll find the heat ranges are all similar and all within one "steP either up or down. thats all that is relevant to the discussion of "what plugs" to use,.. anything and all else, is like you say, a "personal choice".
