Failed CA Smog Test
Yup- We have the same inspection in NY and I had the same exact problem. I also have the V3 with the HJS Cats. After my tune was re-calibrated by EPL my monitors are now all set. Glad to see you got it sorted out without to much trouble.
I am waiting to see what happens at the smog check station tomorrow. Else, the tune needs to be re-calibrated as stated above.
Good he's a decent guy and he'll try to make it right for you. If you want to check before hand you can go to auto zone or the like and borrow their hand held scanner for free. This way you can check if the monitors are ready before you head to the smog station.
PM'd Tony for his help.
I had my flash taken off and drove more than 500 miles and still did not have readiness...you need a very knowledgeable Porsche tech to use a PIWIS tool to obtain readiness or to determine if your flash is the problem otherwise you can be chasing your tail....considering the number of flashes out there I'm sure most California dealers have encountered this issue by now

Tony @ EPL has resolved this issue with a customer in another state in post here or in other forum.
I am wondering that this issue will be popping up with non-stock maps with other tuners when it comes time for the smog.
^^^Thank you Tony for working on this.
My indy has been sending 4 to 5 cars a month to the smog referee station. He has been seeing 996 and early 997 models come up with issues even on non-tuned cars.

Flashed with Cobb OTS stage 1 map couple weeks ago. Finally got enough time to put some mileage on it and.... all monitors ready! Woohoo.
The tune drives smoother and is more tractable at low rpm to boot. I'm going to enjoy this tuning path going forward.

I just did my CA Smog check, and passed. This is with a GIAC tune, and quite a few non-obvious mods to the engine, but quite a few obvious mods to the rest of the car! I put a stock exhaust on it, cleared the ECU (shouldn't have done this), and went for a check. The tech said that he couldn't do the smog check because the computer was recently reset.
I drove it a few times, used my Innova 3100 OBD scanner to see that it had a green light for smog, and went back and passed. I did not go through the exact drive cycle that has been described. I think that those categories must include cumulative times rather than a specific sequence.
I had put the stock intake back on last year so that I wouldn't have to worry about visual inspections. I have to admit that i am really liking the quiet stock exhaust, too! Makes listening to the radio out on the highway much nicer. I'll have to see whether I stick the other one back on or not - probably just save it for when/if I turn it into a track car. The car makes a crazy amount of power even with the stock exhaust, and is so quiet!
Guess I'm showing my age, but it sure is nice to cruise down the highway listening to tunes!
