Porsche OEM Short Shift

Just had Porsche OEM Short Shift installed by dealer in my 03tt. Very tight feel/notchy. About the same as B&M to me, hard to be sure without driving both back to back. Little pricey 500 parts plus 110 labor, but for me it made sense because I had original tranny replaced because of popping out of gear problem. This keeps everything stock as far as Porche is concerned and does not create any problems with warranty if further factory problems arise.

Apparently it's the same one as the B&M, with the usual Porsche markup...

I figured the Porsche SS would have the same feeling as the B&M as both products look the same.

FYI Short Shifter

As most of you now I sell a lot of B&M shifters and a lot of Factory Original Porsche parts. Well about 2 months ago Porsche told me they were coming out with a Factory short shifter and I got one sent to me. To my surprise it looked almost identical to the B&M, so I completely disassembled both shifters and NOT to my surprise almost every part was identical. Porsche version upper shaft is a little wider and ¼ inch longer and the ratio is 2% shorter and it has a Porsche part number 000 044 700 26 stamped on it. Well I have now been told by B&M and confirmed by Porsche that B&M makes the Factory Short shifter for them. Why such a large price difference shipping and stamping the part number on it !

If you go on B&M web site they now show a partnership with Porsche on the site. For those of you that have not had a run in with Porsche for using the Porsche name, Crest, 911 silhouette or any likeness of any of those. Porsche will not let you use them on any commercial site unless you are directly working with Porsche.

Wow!! In a related matter, anyone tried the new under car B&M in combo with in-the-car one??
is it recommended or can it cause tranny problems?

I have the TechArt short shifter (located at the transmission and 20 minute install). Does it make any sense to add the Porsche or B&M console short shifter as well?

I have heard that you can combine the two short shifters but it would be such a short throw it is not good for the internals parts of the transmission.

when you combine the two short shifters your shifting is extremely short and sometimes makes it difficult to shift but I liked it

A short shifter is ok to install but combining 2 of them togther isnt a great thing to do, the throw is reduced too great and it isnt ideal for the transmission.

I don't understand how the transmission would be effected at all by having two short shifters.

The short shifters only change the fulcrum of the lever arm on either end (at the shifter or at the transmission).

The only change would be the amount of force needed by the driver to activate a gear change, but that force is the same inside the transmission regardless of the presence or absence of the short shifter.

The only other thing I can think of is that with an at the transmission short shift kit, the cable from the driver to the transmission would undergoes increased forces.

My experience exactly.

I had both the Techart and the B&M shifter installed. The shift was extremely short, which I liked, however the increased shift effort really got to me. I removed the Techart unit and kept the B&M unit.

Remember, the synchros are the limiting factor. You do not actually shift faster.

Did they give you a hard time b/c of the B&M? A Porsche tech mentioned to Dr. Bill that a lot of the cars with short-shifters appeared to be popping out of 2nd. As far as my somewhat limited info would take me, I didn't think the SS would have anything to do with holding the gear or not. I thought that was purely transmission.

The problem of the cars popping out of gear is on stock cars, the SS kits should not be held responsible for this problem.
