DIY: Whats the best way to hoist a 996TT Engine?
Im looking at hoisting my engine for transport however I have no idea of the best way to lift this sucker.
Is there hoisting points/rings already installed or do I need to bolt into the block
If tuners and mechanics could chime in on this one it would be a great help
Thanks
Si

there should be an eyelet at the back of the motor. if not i use a bolt in the power steering mount and another bolt in the alternator mount with a chain in between to lift with. i set it on a pallet with a couple boards underneath the motor. i use starts to secure it to the pallet. you can then use a fork lift or hoist to lift it onto a truck
The eyelet is to lift the engine with the transmission attached. But without the transmission you can use the eyelet and the two attach point on the engine carrier. Were the chain ares on this picture.

Ah I see ! there will be no tranny attached. My only other question is which leveller do I buy to go with my hoist??
One with bolts or one with hooks? It look like you bolt into the engine carrier but you hook the eyelet (see links below).

OMG these are fancy slings and not too expensive! May be the chain is a bit too short but you got some shackle on them it can be fix.... I like the red one because of the attachment plates...Use one chain on the eyelet side and use two chain on the engine carrier. 680 kg is plenty!!!

LOL!!! The one I saw being used in the past was a simple three chain sling. But you will have to fabricate some adaptor plates to fit the carrier. It is really up to you as long the sling can handle the weight!!!!
Be careful with chinese stuff. If they say it will support 1000 pounds give yourself some safety and double that.....The engine weight is 260 kg (573 pounds) transmission weight is 125 kg wet (256 pounds....)
