I purchased a 996 Turbo after my Boxster was totaled when I was rear ended, and posted shortly after regarding removing the mods that were put on this thing.
I've purchased all the parts to replace the pressure y-pipe and also the airbox, f-pipe, diverter valves, air intake.
I've run into a bit of an issue and need some extra brain power on how to remove the custom air-intake. I've unscrewed the 3 bolts and was hoping that I could just pull out the custom part and install the OEM version. Nope they used sealant and for the life of me I can't think of how to get this removed. tried a razor blade, guitar string, small hacksaw blade.
The engine is still in the car as the picture show, but I'm hoping someone can come up with a genius plan with me on how to get this damn custom part out.
Any ideas?
Note: the picture looking into the custom part, if you look down where it's connected you can see the extra sealant.
how many bolts did you remove? there are 3 bolts that would hold something like that in. bet theres a bolt underneath that you missed. also if you support the underside of the motor you can loosen the 2 motor mount bolts and lower the motor a good 4-6" to help get back there
I removed three bolts. The one on the bottom was a bit harder to do, but I did manage to remove it completely with the help of a borescope to guide me. I guess I'll try the motor mount idea.
IF all the bolts are out put a large pipe thats longer and fits snuggly into the one shown and put enough pressure on the goo so it should come apart then just leave it to work on itself, goo should give up before the welds. my 2 cents

hmm ok I think I can see what you mean. I'll see what I can do with this idea. Thanks.
Just curious, but what was wrong with mods that made you want to take them off? Were they causing driveability issues? Dont really care about power increases?

Don't get me wrong, I like the increased power, but I mainly I want it to pass visual (it's a Cali car and the seller must have paid to have it pass). It screamed NOT STOCK, but I also wanted to wrench on the car to get to know it. The thought is that in future I'll know it more.
It's a beautiful car, but did have some massive leaks and one thing lead to another and here I am. That said enjoying every moment of it.
