Hey guys,
Recently my passenger side window stopped working. It happened out of nowhere, and wasn't making any grinding noises before. Most people are pointing toward the regulator, but others have said to replace the switch.

It's been like for a week, but today it randomly worked momentarily. The window does not auto lower when the passenger door is opened.

Has anyone had this issue before or know where I can start? I don't want to just throw parts at it to fix it, but was hoping to find a troubleshooting tree.

Does the window roll up and down or is it just the auto-lower function? Common failure point is the micro switch and/or door latch. On my 996TT I had to replace my driver side latch when I had the auto-lower go out.

 

the auto up/down feature does not work at all.

the window hasn't worked for a week or so, then randomly started working again, then stopped.

How does one test for micro switch and/or door latch?

 

I didnt test on my car. I bought the switch because it was only ~$20 bucks. Turned out to be the latch so then that repair came.

Sound like the random intermittent issue may just be the contacts in the switch giving up the ghost. I say replace the switch and see.

 

but my vote is for failing door latch mechanisms ( they are different L-R ) as opposed to window reg since no audble crunching is heard indicating failing window reg? GL..

 

Guessing the $20 switch is a dealer part?

And the latch controls the auto up/down?

 

Yep. Suncoast has them.

 

How do i know if the motor or regulator is at fault.

Currently you can roll the window up and down... on the 3rd attempt it will fail, and just click. won't go up or go down. mess with it some more, and it will go up or down.

i've removed the door card and can't see anything really out of place, and not sure how to test the motor is intermittent or the regulator is intermittent. The auto / up down sounds like it's directly related to the micro switch ($30 suncoast part correct?) it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Very frustrating trying to troubleshoot.

 

Sounds like motor if it works for a bit then clicks. You can always try swapping driver/passenger rocker switches and see if the problem moves to the other side.

 

I tried that and nothing changed :/

The clicking you hear when the window not moving is me pressing the up / down switch and it stops working...only to start working a minute later...
