Car starts. 3 sec after dies

Hey guys after a week of not driving i jumped in the car to pickup our son from school.
Car cranked. Kidda funny maybe not. But while shifting into 2nd stubble a bit. No big deal im thinknig. . I down shifted from 4th to 3rs and same. A bit of stall. So im like maybe dirty maf. I got to parking lot turn the car off. Pickedup son got into the car. Cranked the car and it died 3sec after. I added gas. New battery. Nothing same thing, fuel filter i replaced a year ago. Any ideas? Im thinking to start messing around with fuel pump.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it, might just be a burst hose in the tank.

Agree with BLKMGK.

More specifically one of the siphon jet hoses is not working and the engine has run out of fuel, at around 1/2 tank, because the non-working siphon jet won't pull fuel out of its basin. The other working siphon jet has of course emptied its basin of fuel.

Good for you in refusing to let the 1st tow truck operator touch your car. Had he tried to tow the car the front diff/viscous coupling would have been ruined in no time.

You have learned the hard way, but to others whenever you call a tow truck be sure to emphasize that a flat bed tow truck is required. The car can't be towed on either axle alone.

'course, this doesn't mean that the tow truck dispatcher will not make a mistake -- as happened to me one time -- and send out an older style truck with a hook. The operator was upset a bit but I assured him I had clearly specified a flat bed truck was needed and the dispatcher assured me she would see that one would be on its way to me.

well dispatcher talked to the towing company and told them that my car is low, and it needs flat bed with some 2x4's (as i mentioned) and requested. I don't like dealing with towing guys to be honest, 80% of them are very rude, not-friendly, they hate their jobs. first towing guy asked me again what car it was, i told him + awd, he was like, well if the car was 1" higher i could take it, (in my head was like, sure you can) i know they use dollies- i'm like oh god, I don't even want you to be near my car....Second towing was flat bed, came with 2x4s, guy was cool as hell, being extra carefull, my front lip got some scratches but no big deal, not that expensive to replace. so I got home around 12:30am

I had a misfire once. Car ran like crap and would stall and would not run on all cylinders. A bottle of Heet helped. It turned out to be bad gas, even though it was freshly filled and from shell.

I swapped coils and replaced plugs.

Don't rule out bad rule either. Do you have any CEL?

The last time my car would start and only run for 3 seconds, it was a broken timing chain! :-O I'm sure you're not in the same boat...

Any CEL or codes to pull?

no CE light, I drove the car for many miles before I parked for about a week or so, I believe I had about half a tank, the car started fine, there was no missfire while driving but switching from first to second gear car kinda bugged, I thought maybe its just dirty maf sensor but was driving fine, second light was from 2nd to 3rd, bug.sticky pedal feel and small missfire.

(So acted like running out of gas really), i was half a block from daycare
so im thinking maybe the hose Busted inside the tank and whatever gas was
in the lines, just to make it to the parking lot and park it.

I added more gas 3-4 gal (thinking maybe! i was out of gas) i added new battery, since the old 5 year old battery was showing 35% of life left.

Car started, better than before... but dies after 3-5 sec....

nah no CEL ~ I hope not, or that car won't see daylight for a very long time - pretty much anything that will require engine drop.

i'm going to go over the fuses first,~ See if the fuel pump kicks, pull the fuel pump and inspect it. I think (dead fuel pump or busted hose) Also I'm going to test the gas, than clean the maf and tb but that's after the car starts... I may have time tomorrow or entire Friday to dig, i'll keep you guys posted.

Getting to the fuel assembly is cake but a slight hassle reinstalling. Pay attention to where things go and peer around with a flashlight before fully pulling the hat off.

There should be in addition to a fuel pump fuse a fuel pump relay. When it was suspected my Boxster's fuel pump quit, I visited the dealer and a Porsche tech loaned me his test relay to confirm it was not the relay. It was not the relay.

that's what i'm shooting for: I believe you can feel if the relay clicks or not, by placing your finger on the relay and turning the key. you can feel the click (unless that relay is different)

1. pump fuse
2. pump relay
3. see if the fuel pump primes (Get power), do pressure test. (if it does)
4. taking the pump out to inspect the (octopus)

if the car starts for few sec and dies, i dont think fuel pump is dead. (busted hose)

tomorrow is a big day....fingers crossed
