04 Gt2?

When will production end for the 996 GT2? I heard a rumor there will be an 04 GT2 with a little boost in power and loss in weight? Figure this is the best group to ask. BTW: I'm a newber and enjoying reading all your experiences although I am not quite financially there, yet. Releasing business venture next month and if all goes well perhaps I can be equally as obsessed? JK

The 04 GT2 will have an MSRP of over $190k, increased hp to just approx 470, refined suspension, GT3 style wheels, optional Carbon wing and mirrors, the weight savings comes from the wing and mirrors and is very minimal.

Get a used one

I would get a used one with 3-5K miles on it and do your own upgrades.

BTW - You were not kidding about starting a venture and hoping to get the GT2. The only reason you are starting the venture is because you want to buy things like the GT2. I've been there

misinformation

You guys are posting some incorrect information. Porsche has a press release which discusses the changes for the 2004 GT2. I suggest you read it.

There is no optional CF rear wing. The rear wing is CF and the option is to leave it unpainted.

The door mirrors are CF look, not CF.

I wasnt aware that you are a Porsche authority, my facts were correct, maybe the carbon wasnt 100% accurate as I might of made a mistake, dont be so aggresive, I have forgotten more than you know.

As someone else mentioned above, buy used for sure. You can save ten's of thousands of dollars adn let the first owner take the depreciation hit. Believe me, the GT2 was bought by alot of people who will not drive it hard. I would imagine you could find plenty of garage queens in the midwest. Save your dough and buy a slightly used garage queen. Good luck on your venture.

Yes, and if you want a new 2004 GT2, you'd better hurry. Reliable sources say only 8-10 will be available through a select number of US dealers.

Appreciate the response guys. I purchased my M3 used and it turned out to be just pampered. Fortunately, I lucked out because the last M3 I owned was a wreck, literally. I have tendency’s to be very picky and **** about my cars so if the situations right I’d probably hop on a new one. Here's my question. I've driven the 996tt. Nonetheless it was quick but I am curious for those who have experienced both – obviously a lot of you judging from the signatures – how largely do they differ. I’ve never owned an AWD car and nor do I intend to. Basically how much of a difference is there in drive train loss and how are the handling characteristics different?

Chris, The Turbo and GT2 might look similar but they are very different, the Turbo is a very forgiving car with the 4WD and PSM, many people can drive these cars hard and think they are a great driver and the car picks up the slack when it senses weakness, the GT2 is very raw and takes skill to drive well, the GT2 has a light feel up front compared to the Turbo, has no PSM and THE REAR WILL LOVE TO DANCE SIDEWAYS, the suspension is aggressive and IMO is the way these cars should be set up but harsh for everyday use, IMO both of these cars are incredible and appeal to different drivers.

I would guess that out of all the drivers who want a GT2, really only about 5% of the actually want it. In other words, most people want it until they buy it and realize it's not for them and/or they wreck it. I've read that up to 20% of these cars were wrecked by their owners who didn't have the skill to drive it.

I've done quite a few DE's and track events, but I still think there's no way in hell I'd be able to drive it safely around a track. The thing is a beast.

It will probably be down to 9 soon...I imagine Watt will need one, especially since he sold his '02 GT2 and is probably getting bored with the 2nd GT3 by now,...
