Window problem

Hello all

I've always warmed up my car in the morning, and recently I discovered a problem with my 996tt. On damp, wet morning I would find the driver side window automatically roll down after I started the car. Just wondering if it's a known problem on these cars or mine have an electrical gremlin.

Definitely not normal. Further investigation is required.

I wouldnt do this. You are doing more damage than good. Porsche even tells you not to do this in the manual. By idling the car it takes longer to warm the car than if you were to drive it, thus running the car longer while it is cold and at idle.

At cold start, our cars raise the idle rpms, increase timing and run the secondary airpump. This normally lasts about a minute or so depending on the weather and you can immediately tell when this phase is over because the engine rpms drop and the exhaust gets much quieter when it's ready. I recommend idling the car for that long, but you don't need to wait for the engine to be at operating temp. Start driving and stay out of boost until engine is up to temp.

Well those posts above will certainly help your window problem, which sounds like the switch IMO. Sounds like when it gets cold and or wet it makes the connection without help.

Are you talking about the switch in the door handle or the one in the console? .

Could be a known problem. Often door/window electrical gremlins are caused by water.

Check the bottom of the doors for dampness. Check the body water drains for blockage.

The body water drains are located under the front trunk lid on either side of the battery. You'll need a Torx tool kit with the security bits (each has a tiny hole in its center to provide clearance for the pip in the screw head).

If you find the bottom of the doors damp the chances are the door membrane is leaking. The door card will have to be removed and this membrane replaced. It gets glued to the door frame to effect a water seal to keep water out of the "dry" side of the door, where the electronics/electrics are located.

If the body water drains have collected trash you'll have to carefully remove this trash and use water from a pitcher to carefully flush the rest of the smaller debris out of the basins and through the drain hoses. You want to be sure none of the trash/debris remains in the drain hoses or this will catch debris that would otherwise run out with water and block the water flow.

Check under the seats -- especially the passenger seat -- for dampness. The security module is located under the passenger seat on the floor and wants to remain dry. If you find any you have to dry this ASAP. This probably would require the seat be removed.

I would start with the interior switch as I believe the microswitch only controls the slight drop that is needed for door opening i'm not certain but I believe you can take the passenger window switch and hook it up to the drivers window
