I would like to mention one more aspect on the potential gains of filters on turbos. This experience is most likely due to being at 4500 ft elevation, but could be relevant to others as well.

On my stock K24 X50 car, running SRM intercoolers, Markski 3" catless xpipe, Markski tune and upgraded wastegate actuators, I could not run more than 1.0-1.1 bar at peak, and it would generally peak around 4500 rpm in third gear and drop to 0.9-1.0 bar at redline. First and second were even worse, 0.7-0.8 bar at best. I tried and tried, even tightened the wastegate actuators to only crack at 17 psi, still wouldn't hold.

Switched to filters on turbos and instantly was able to hit 1.3 bar at 4500 rpm and hold to redline in third gear. First and second were also seeing 1.1 bar.

So as others have mentioned, maybe 20-25 hp from switching to filters on turbos (assuming same boost). But in my case, I was able to build another 3 psi of boost. I think this is why I saw a 40hp difference on the same dyno after filters on turbos.

Good info John! When I finally get to my k16 billets (next winter) I'll be reaching out to you for intake plenum hard plumbing. I'll be needing to upgrade to a Sachs 2.5- so I'll be in there anyway. It makes sense for a simple k16 billet swap, that it would provide more than sufficient flow and the goals I'm trying to achieve with the driveability rain or shine. Definitely some cool results here though- some impressive #s from Grat. Finally going to get my 3" X Pipe on Sat.- be on the lookout for some photos! Such an awesome unit, thanks again! -Chris

Do you have a photo of your hi-flow plumbing installed?

Here are a few pictures of our Hi-Flow plenum with hard piping. This is a no compromise solution for long term reliability, now tested for 10 years/100,000 miles with no sign of wear or failure on the hard pipes:

Our 2.5" x 75mm Y-Pipe on the pressurized side completes the full 2.5" Hi-Flow path (there are SpeedTech 2.5" in/out intercoolers installed to match the flow):

* Our Y-Pipe is also available with diverter valve vent tube delete and Tial BOV's on the back side.
We are currently finishing one with a beautiful satin black wrinkle finish with two Tial BOV's, one on the rear of each leg where the air box normally sits.

Its way better to use a bendable or hard piping instead of filters on turbos.
What about rainy days? Thunderstorms, wet roads?

This is pretty interesting if you haven't seen the filters covers/wraps in action. Personally, I didn't expect them to work as good as shown in the video, so it's a nice surprise.

Obviously, it won't protect from everything, but definitely seem to provide a lot of benefit.

The socks really do an amazing job at keeping water out. I'm building splash guards for mine this year to help from big splashes of driving through a puddle.

tuning to the stock box though is a great option and for guys dd the car in all conditions it's probably better.

IMO it's not for everyone and not all conditions. There is a good reason for all the other alternatives. But if you have the whether and are ok with the maintenance we know it works with some minimal risk.

Why would you be driving full song, in the rain, under those conditions? Or on recently wet roads?

For those interested in buying the parts you can get the filters and hydrophobic prefilters from AdvanceAuto using coupon codes for about $100.

I'm looking forward to trying this out and hearing more turbo noises.

Guys make sure you log and have you car/tune looked over as almost every one I've seen needs more fuel.
