Table size for engine drop

Hello Gents,

Setting everything in motion to drop my engine.

When I did my 3.2 aircooled I used a 24" x 28" table to drop it on and I was uncomfortable with it as I work by myself.

I want to build a table to drop my TT motor on using an engine stand that I will build up probably using 2" x 6" studs.

What is the best size table to make? 30" x 40" is the wheel spacing for my engine stand, but I could go bigger?

If you could do it all over again what size would you make? Height?

Thanks
Rod

My hydraulic table is 32 X20 and here's some pictures of my set-up.....The last picture is the wooden platform to secure the engine on the table.... For the height, I got a lift cannot help ;-( This set-up was used several time and I am really happy about it....

I order that table from a company located in Canada (link below). Unfortunately the one I got is not there anymore and the prices are a lot higher ???? I got the model # 716240 MOBILE LIFT TABLE/1100LB CAP-B and I paid $588.00 but you can found better deal at Harbour freight I think.....

The last picture on my post is the platform made of wood. I made it to get the block of the engine to rest on it.....It was really stable and was able to move the platform with the engine on it around the garage without any fear of falling off.....

I’m dropping the engine with exhaust and turbos as I’m going to work on the cooling stuff. It’s 4 ft wide. A 20” table sounds very unstable working by myself. Not to mention how long is everything with the gbox?

Yes I have a full size lift. That is why I want a nice big table. Stress free.

You live north of Toronto? A little bit too far for me to give you a hand My set-up was perfect and with the lift table you can adjust the engine at your height to work on it easily.... Never had a problem with stability, transmission on or off....

Hmmm.
If I have a hydraulic lift, do I really need a hydraulic table too?

Hydraulic table is a lot more precise to operate when you lift the engine in place. The other factor is you can do it alone like I did! But if you got someone to operate the lift I guess it can be done if your lift can be operated gently....

I use me welding table with some wood blocks when I pull motors. I'd have to measure but I think is 40x48
