Looking for turbo advice

Anyone used the K16/24 close tolerance turbos offered by Speed Gallery? Any comments good or bad appreciated.

These are not the zero clearance, but .003 clearance (if I recall correctly), which is slightly more clearance than the zero clearance, but much closer tolerance than stock. Standard clearance being approx. .009 (again, if I recall correctly). The idea being they are pretty tight and are supposed to spool quickly due to K16 side and flow extremely well due to K24 side ( I believe they are also referred to as GT1 turbos).

Mine are probably similar in that they were done early 2002 at By Design. Not sure of clearance but nicest feature is they spool quick and early.

Thanks for the all the comments. The general consensus seems to be they are a great upgrade for a mainly street driven car, which is my situation. I now feel pretty confident I am making the right choice. Looking forward to getting them up and running with the ported headers and software upgrade.

Hey John..

Good to see you on the board. My car now has ceramic coated ZC process integrated into the Ruf housing which were "hybrid" from the factory. Kevin did the job.Mail me if you wish...

I must have been lucky b/c my car is bulletproof in 3+ years. I think it was done before the decline of things. I believe Fred would have some insight into that time of around January 2002.

Buddy they are Garrett GT internals mounted into a K16 hot side housing. Its the ball bearing technoligy that makes them spool so quick.

John,

I had those turbos on my car for approximately 2 years. They are AWESOME!!!! The spool very quickly and generate good power. But for my insatiable desire for more power, I would still be using them.
