I had replaced my shift boot long ago with Alcantera, but I guess it was pretty cheap stuff. I had some time today so switched to faux leather. The whole thing took about two hours from start to finish. I had some spare hardware so I was able to make the whole boot first. If you only have one, you'll just have to switch the order of things around a bit.
This is the old faded one. (Ignore lab hair)
I had a worn out GT3 boot that I could use for the pattern and plastic parts. I made my pattern bigger so I could have a better margin for error.
This is the plastic part that connects to the console
First thing - copy the pattern to the material you intend to use...
If you are going to do the colour stitching, you have to sew the front first. Sew from the inside - you are building this inside out...
... then sew the other side and flip it inside out...
Put the plastic part inside and check for fit...
Fold the material back around the bottom and cut holes to anchor the boot to the plastic base. Work your way around to the front. (You can glue it too if you want)
Pry the plastic base from the old boot off the console and pull it inside out to expose the base of the shift ****.
You will see that the **** is held down by a hex screw...
Loosen/remove the screw to pull the old assembly off. Cut the zip ties to separate the **** from the boot.
Now put the old **** into your new boot and zip tie...
Now, you should have this
Put it in the car, tighten the screw and enjoy your new boot.
