Is there a Difference with regular 996tt and X50 Tiptronic ?

Was looking into getting a 996 tt Tiptronic. But spoke with mark and also did some research and it seems they are weak. I was wondering are the Tiptronics any stronger in the x50? I found some threads that say they are, but nothing concrete. Figured I would make a post and ask. My intention with it is to daily drive it and take it a few times a year down the drag strip. Was going to go with billet K16s and try to swing high 10s out of it when I go there if possible without building the Tranny. Seems the clutches in the tips are the first weak link.

Tips are pretty strong for an auto. I like mine, although I’m trying to fine tune it to my liking. I’m currently at 800whp until I get a tcm tune and stall converter.

I have my own opinion on this topic. It may be unpopular, but...The X50 performance package is an optional upgrade that gives the 996 Turbo a serious boost in power. With bigger turbochargers, a beefier intercooler, and other performance goodies, the X50-equipped 996 Turbo cranks out 444 horsepower, which is quite a bit more than the 415 horsepower that the regular 996TT puts down.

And then there's the Tiptronic transmission. Now, don't get me wrong, it's a great transmission and all, but it's just not as exciting as a good old-fashioned manual gearbox. That being said, the Tiptronic does give you the option to shift gears manually using either the gear selector or the paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

All in all, a Porsche 996 Turbo with the X50 package and Tiptronic transmission is going to be faster and more powerful than a regular 996 Turbo, but it might not give you the same kind of driving experience as a manual transmission.

That's that.

@MikeSpiller @MikeSpillerr ,
Are you speaking from personal experience here, or just stating what you read elsewhere ??

Also, why do you have two accounts, that's a no no here..

Not that simple in a daily road car in my opinion. The K24's have more boost, AT THE TOP END but they also lose 900rpm on the bottom I believe (don't have the chart). If you plan on being in an Extreme hurry all the time, the X50 keeps going where the K16 on mine starts slowing down above 5k. But if you're looking for a daily you spend 98% of your life below 5k so you will feel it more and more often 9 times out of ten days. Plus a Tip means the engine is a little less like to have damage from down shifts/over revs since it tries to protect the engine. I've been driving a regular Tip cab for 8 years as my only daily driver, even here in northern Colorado, grip and low end make it an easy drive even in the snow. I love 4/5/6 speeds but for a high mileage daily driver a Tip is just a lot less work. I've had plenty sports cars but this is more a GT/executive transport type. Love it for what it is, if you drive it daily the mileage will dent the value of being special so decide what you're willing to pay and how practical you can effort to not be. And I so wanted a 996 GT2 but COA, RWD, special parts, a wicked rough ride, less low end and it's value/cost per mile makes it a great daily for only a very short while. I've put 80k on mine so far, plan to put on another 200k. MHO

I think what everyone is trying to tell you, get a PPI (pre purchase insepction) before buying a car, and don't worry about whether or not its an X50 Find a car that meets your needs, color, options, price range etc. etc. Just make sure it checks out, hence the PPI.

Seems all the internals in both the x50 and non x50 tiptronic is the same. Includes torque converter

How would it be "faster"? I suppose the Tip could shift milliseconds quicker than rowing? possibly. But still it's not "PDK faster". The "lag" of the K24 turbo's on a stock X 50 car are a real "trade-off" from the quicker spooling K16's but do excel on the top. But a "tuned" X50 is going to be the quickest of the stock configurations offered the 20+ years ago.

Also, there are no "paddle shifters" as such. There are "appendage" like button type things ( hard to describe even ) on either side of the steering wheel to manipulate with the drivers thumbs, with + & - on them. Paddle shifters would be a vast improvement over what is actually provided in a Tip car.

This platform is still astonishing all these many years later, as I managed to effortlessly yet briefly exceed the posted "speed limit" this morning. Better even, than that third cup of coffee.
