I can't imagine a slide at 100mph with a open diferential... Is there any LSD besides the OEM GT2? Do you know the price of an aftermarket or GT2 LSD? Will the GT2 LSD accept the TT tranny and shafts?

So that's about it ? Remove the shaft, the front differential and put a cover on top of the tranny and you are done ? Seem too easy to me

Oh no, there is more than that. That is just the tranny side.

I'm tired of to many mysteries around the 2wd conversion. It make me think that some elites don't want to share the process, just to be unique or to avoid loosing big money. From little info from several threads it seems to me that what you will need to do is:

1. remove front shafts,
2. remove front diff,
3. remove central tranny,
4. put a cover in the rear diff in the central tranny hole (adjust the diff oil level),
5. put front wheel sensors from a rwd 996.

It may need more steps, specially to keep PSM working, but this is all i know.
My only concern is running with a open diff. Will it be as safe as a GT2 or even a 996/997 C2?

There are no mysteries, pull the shaft, change the nose cover. Pull the diff and put DME stub axels in where the shafts were so the ABS can still read or change the sensors to the C2.

Your diff will be fine. I am not sure why you are concerned with that. It will not make any difference. .

On your other post, there is a mention about the abs sensor. That is all what it needs on top of the diff/shaft/cover mods ?

My front differential might be going out

Any of you guys that made the RWD conversion have your front OEM differential laying around that you wouldn't mind selling? Or is this a sign for me to do a RWD conversion?

I have no idea, the car has not been on a dyno. It's has been a Stage 2 for about 15k miles. I wonder if the front differential going out is a common thing to happen on 996TTs?

Check out my thread...but basically I dropped off the car to have the Cargraphic exhaust and EVO wastegate upgrade put back on the car and when they test drove the car they noticed that there was some noise coming out of the front. The checked the hubs, wheel bearing, etc and they really think the front differential is going out.

They did a road test on the car to set the wastegates and noticed a slight sushing sound coming from the front of the car and noticed a little vibration in the streering wheel. They brough it back to the shop and checked the front hubs, wheel bears, etc and really think it's the front diff thats making the noise.

Damm weird, your car doesnt have alot of mileage or anything either. When i got my car, my wheel bearing was SHOT, i drove around for like a month on it cause people didnt realize how serious it was, the noise was unbearable after a while and was like **** this, something is definitely wrong. Got the wheel bearing which was shattered replaced, and it was night and day difference smoothness wise and sound! They said it could have locked up and seized on me in the middle of driving, i was extremely pissed at the previous owner, that could have been VERY dangerous
