The shop's name that is doing the work is Carl's Place located in Las Vegas. They have been around for 30+ years and all they work on is Porsches, from the old ones to the newer ones. All of the mechanics are ex-porsche dealership guys and the owner is an abid porsche guy (does a lot of racing). I've been over there twice and have my own tech that's assigned to my car (guy who knows the ins and outs of a 996). I'm dropping the car off tomorrow morning and if all goes well I should have it back Friday afternoon.

I will confirm that they are exactly the same. There is no difference other than the nose and tranny cooler. All else from the pump to the turbos is the same.

I haven't looked under the car, but have seen the driveshaft when I took it home.

My sense is that it will be painfully obvious. I also beleive there is a plastic cover or undercariage air management piece that must be removed to get to the driveshaft?

Thanks, thats what I wanted to know. Reading through 6 pages seemed daunting a the time and I wasnt sure if anyone would bring it up.

My assumption failed!!!!!!!!

Sorry guys, but what exactly is the "stub axel" ? Also, I saw on the part list that the GT2 has LSD, what will happen if you run the TT transmission without LSD , will it be more stress to the transmission ?

Thanks

Won't stress the tranny, it'll just make the car a more handfull on aggressive driving. An LSD is a great idea if you want to stay two-wheel drive.

Yeah, but how much does a rear LSD run?

***update***

I just got back from the shop a little bit ago...here is where they are at. They took out the drive shaft and front diff. They also removed the front axels, cv joints, and 996tt sub axels. When they went in to install the C2 stub axels they noticed that it was a larger diameter unit as compared to the 996tt. So they went ahead and removed the 996tt stub axels from the cv joint/axels and will be putting them back in. They will road test to see if all is well and let me know by the end of the day. The total weight of the drive shaft, front diff, and front axels & cv joints is approx. 125lbs.

Stephen - Tony over at Carl's Place sent you an e-mail about a few questions...if you can respond to him by tomorrow morning I'd appreciate it!

another way to make it (much) more exciting is adding power.

600HP is a great place to start!
