I understand this company will have an engine management system for the 996tt very soon.

Is there a difference between a "chip" (i.e. GIAC or Upsolute) and and "engine management system"?

Chad...

Will they be able to incorporate PSM and be able to completely defeat it with a switch? Is that the limiting factor with the Motec?

I have just learned about this company. The salesmanship sounded excellent. I am waiting to see what they offer for the 996tt in the next couple of months. Their products for other cars sounds awesome.

They were building this since last year. They deliver technology components, and are supposedly programming one of their boxes for the 996TT. It is also supposed to have the capability to be reprogrammed by the user with a laptop and a serial cable. That scares me as I have found a good percentage of owners have difficulty trying to determine the adjustment setting on the PSS9s. Now they will have the ability to remap their timing, boost, fuel, etc. I can foresee a lot of 996TT engines needing some work in the future...

viperbob,

Good point. People who need a canned program might want to stay away. As for myself, I want to go where canned programs don't venture. I really hope this comes to market.

Agreed, not for everyone. But an alternative.

Chad,

It seems like this takes what is good about the UniChip (you can program it!) and eliminates the irritations (tripping sensors) that also come with it. Viperbob, I agree that a programable controller could be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing, but in the right hands ...

My own experience with the UniChip has been quite an eye opener. My friend Alex and I have come up with a number of programs that are very useable, depending on the situation. I like that flexibility and is the reason that I have resisted going with a canned program dispite the irritating side effects that accompany the UniChip. I look forward to hearing more about the Lenz engine management systems and hope that they get something together for 996 TT soon!

Guys, there are supposed to be two major companies coming out with effectively replacement ECU systems that are way easy to work on (and have full access to data acquisition in 1Q04). .

As I am allowed to disclose more and learn more, I will share.

cjv...

I remember a few months ago, the EPA (or some gov agency) required that car manufactures make their computer emissions public information... Did this system come about from this new law?

Yes, the new law was a positive factor but the two manufacturers I know of were already working on it. One is well known in the racing world.

DAMN!!! all 4 digit HPs!!
The first car looks lik a modded Koneingsegg (sp? 4:40AM here....)
Also, they refer to LOTEC...that is not a new name and is in fact a reputable German tuner...They were going to do my 01TT but I sold the car
