996TT or GT2 as a daily driver?
I have tried to search the forum a bit, but wasn't able to find any good info about just this. I am in the market, and will probably make a move in a couple of months. I live in Norway, so getting a test drive in both is about impossible.
My brain sais: Go for the 996TT.
My heart sais: Go for the GT2.
I will mainly use the car for the road, and maybe track it 2-3 times a year. The reasons why my brain sais TT and is sceptical to the GT2 are:
Been saving every nickle for two years, and I really want to choose the right 996.
Thanks,
MariusL

I will mainly use the car for the road, and maybe track it 2-3 times a year. The reasons why my brain sais TT and is sceptical to the GT2 are:
- RWD with no PSM - Can I handle it? I have been driven RWD-cars all my years, but never with more than 200HP. Can I live with AWD?

- Will the driving comfort be (too) bad on normal roads on longer runs? Longer runs means often highways and that again means good roads..
- What about speedbumps? The GT2 are about 20mm (I think?) lower than the TT - will this matter in a daily basis?
- GT2 will be more expensive - but will probably keep the value better. Am I right?
- I would want a Navi&a good soundsystem - A TT got this, and I think it will be an easy update for the GT2?
- This will not be my only car.
Been saving every nickle for two years, and I really want to choose the right 996. Thanks,
MariusL
If you have to think between a TT and a Gt2, get a TT. A 2 is a race car, no frills, just speed and handling. It seems that you are looking for a few more creature comforts, especially when you mentioned a nav system.

But your GT2 looks so sexy.. Maybe a TT with GT2-look is the way to go, but I really don't like cars the looks like something they arn't..

The Turbo was my dream car, but PSM and AWD left me wanting.
And after three years, I cut my losses (lost a few grand in trade) and got a GT2.
The thing is, with used car, you are paying for the sins of the previous owners. And even though the car is prestine in most people's eyes, it had lousy clearbra job that I had to get redone, it had two chips outside of clearbra that I had to fix, and the CF bits have to all be replaced under warranty because the previous owner never used a sunshade when parked outside. The previous owner also used the super blue brake fluid, so it stained the reservoir. Oh, and having to reset the car back to stock ride height was no fun too. I would have much preferred to keep the Turbo since it was in prestine condition with one 2mm chip on the whole car and a good clearbra job, but AWD and PSM made me sell it. It was that much of a kill joy.
I will never look back.
If you have some DE experience, 460HP RWD is no biggie. In fact, I like to drive it sideways. And yes, I drive it to and from work a few days a week.
As long as the previous owner didn't turn the coilover all the way to bump stop, it's actually quite comfortable (once I reset it back to stock ride height).
I will never again buy a car with non defeatable traction control, it's stupid and kills all the fun for me.

My biggest concern about the 2 is if I can handle it because of non PCM and RWD. On the other hand, I have never liked the idea of any thing other than RWD. The other big concern if the driving comfort. Will my body still be fit for more driving after 3-4 hours on the highway in a GT2?!
I have tested a 2002 C4S a couple of times. How is the comfort in this compared to the TT and GT2?

Let me put it this way, if you think the Turbo suspension is soft, you will be fine. If you think the Turbo suspension is rock hard, do not get the GT2.
DE = Driver's Ed, aka Track School, aka, Fahrschule.
I would never touch an M96 block 911. If it aint dry sump, it don't belong in my garage. The C4S suspension is the same as the Turbo, which to me means soft.
Is there no GT2 where you are for test drive?

I have a trackday with an instruktor and as earlier said, I have been driven RWD-cars for 5 years, even on snow and ice without any big troubles. (I guess a 462hp GT2 cant be worse than 150HP RWD car on SNOW/ICE?!
)I know of one GT2 in the country (Heard rumours about another one too!!
) and the guy never lets anyone else drives it. I can test a TT, and will, but atm I have only been driven the C4S.

I don't have experience with the GT-2, but have driven other big horsepower rear wheel cars...if you're daily driving it in Norway, there's no way I'd get the GT-2..how long is winter there? 462hp on ice is a whole other ball game, albeit a very entertaining one
Call me a wuss but I'd go TT.

I live in the southern-part, so I got snow for like 3-4 months. The car will be in the garage these months anyway, so don't think about the snow/ice
Oh, sorry your post said daily driver, I assumed that meant year-round..then definately check out the GT-2, from what I've seen and heard it's a hardcore ride. Guys on here who have them talk about them in religious terms.

I had my 01' Turbo and was never quite happy with it. The AWD and PSM killed the thrill of the ride especially since I was coming out of a 500hp 300zx turbo that I was used to being sideways. Now after experiencing the GT2 feels alot like my Z only ten times better at everything and very controllable. So I would say if you've always driven RWD than go GT2 you will not regret it.
