Dual MAF

I've been wondering if anyone has been experimenting with a dual MAF system for the 996TT. I know **** about electronics, but it seems logical that the 'voltage' issues with the current system could be overcome by splitting the signal between 2 MAFs. In this scenario, it would seem to me that the current tuning files would not have to be altered and the load on the MAF would be reduced by 50%. Does this seem like a logical proposal or am I out to lunch? Now that the 997 turbo comes with a dual MAF, perhaps some of the components could be swapped over to our cars. Any comments?

Agreed. You wouldn't even need two MAFs, just Y pipe intake with a real one reading half the flow on one side and a dummy one to equalize the flow in the other side of the Y..

I have a pretty healthy inventory of dummy MAFs which I've collected over the past couple of years. Anyone looked under the hood of the new Turbo to see if the MAF tubes could be rigged to an intake and the plenumn?

Anyone interested in having EVOMS put together a Twin MAF upgrade, particuliarily for the GT packages? I, for when, am ready with my VISA card for the group buy!

951porsche is infamous around these parts
I can tell you that dual mafs is not a simple 1+1=2 equation, there are alot of things that happen which will alter readings. There are better single maf solutions imo.....

That sounds like a plan also! As the stock MAF can't read the airflow the GT cars are pulling, it seems logical that 2 MAF's, or a single reading 1/2 the air flow as ARI suggested, would not be taxed to POPPING point as is the case with a single.

Thanks Markski. I thought Todd K used a MAP system? Do you have a date your car is expected?

FYI

You gurs are onto something. If you can work out the bugs and wiring.......

Porsche utilizes 2 MAF sensors on the new 997 Twin Turbo. The airbox on the new 997Twin Turbo is a VIRTUAL duplicate of the Fabspeed Motorsports 996 Twin Turbo CUP airbox system. The 997TT airbox is a completely open frame that just holds in the filter.

Joe - so are you saying it wouldn't be that hard to split the wires and run 2 MAFs? Have you guys made an intake for the 997TT yet? I would be willing to give you some feedback if you were to fab up a Dual MAF unit for the 996TT.

Mike

I was looking through the Porsche PET, looking for diagrams of the 997TT airbox/MAF housing to see how that thing looked as compared to the 996TT piece. Unfortunately, despite indicating 2 MAFs in the text component, the diagram only shows 1 MAF and actually looks identical to the 996TT unit. I don't imagine anyone here has a picture of the new dual MAF they would like to share?
