Engine noise normal
Wow, nice Utube audio/video. Just bought my 2002 996tt in LA, with 10k miles on it, stock other than a chip flash, and heard that type of noise after driving it home to the Bay Area. Not sure it is quite as loud as in your video, will have to check that out.
I've been several times to my Porsche mechanic asking about the noise, and he always said "don't worry, they all sound like this. Your car is in very good shape and runs great, forget the noise.."
I had the same noise. The thrust bearings were worn where the intermediate shaft spun on. As were the lifters and camshaft on the passenger side. Engine was replaced under warranty, and out of pocket 10k. Maybe try a thicker oil. I found a good post on rennlist that talked about crank thrust bearing failure and they mention the intermediate thrust bearing problem too. New reman motor doesn't have the rattle, so maybe they fixed the problem...

If you are concerned about the thrust bearings, do an oil analysis.
But since this post says this is a design flaw in the 996tt motors, we don't have too many options here... And there are several high mile, original motor cars out there. I wouldn't sweat it, you'll just drive yourself crazy.
