incorrect fuel gauge reading

Brought my car in for a new cup holder and fuel gauge problem. When I fill up the tank, it only fills up to aboput 5/8 no matter how much I topped it off.

Got my car back and they installed new fuel gauge/instrument cluster (the whole cluster). It is the kind that has the "turbo" script in the center gauge face. When did turbos start coming with this script on the gauge face and is it supposed to light up when the lights are on?

The best part is that my car was almost empty on fuel when I brought it in and they filled it up for me and I didn't pay for anything. All under warranty.

yep, cuz my original didn't have the "turbo" on it. upon closer look, it looks like it is printed on so it doesn't light up.

I've had problems with it as well...had it replaced, now when the light goes on near empty unless I fill the tank completely it won't go off...a drag when I'm trying to time it right to put in race fuel..

I read on Renntech one time -- to drive the tank near empty, disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then fill it up. It is supposed to re-calibrate it? Worth a try - it doesn't cost anything!

On my '01 tt the dealer replaced my instrument cluster to fix a "rear spoiler failure" issue. He told me that the instrument cluster had been "superceded" by another model number, with the only difference being the "turbo" script (standard on the '04-'05 996tt). Mine does not light up.

I wish I knew how to upload a picture...
On the center rpm gauge right in between and under the turn signal indicators it says in small script "turbo".
