problem with evo ic hoses

who has installed the evo hoses lately, not sure if I got a bad set or what. I am installing the hoses on the passenger side upper hose and it seem like the hose is way too short in length. it's seems like it was cut short to the point that it would put way too much stress on the ends of the ic. I could see this potentially causing the plastic ends of stock ic to crack.

I also noticed the ends that connects to the front dv was also trimmed on the short side, barely enough hose to get grip with the clamps provided.

steve, I just got in from disassembly of the ic carriers and hose and the ends of the upper passenger side hose. I could tell that the hoses were not going correctly due to the extremely tight fit and once the ends were connected there was a slight kink to the hose. I will post pics later.

I then dry fit the hose with all the hose ends loose (disconnected the pre clamped ends that mount into the ic) the problem was that who ever pre-assembled the pinch clamps that mount into the ic was off 45 degrees in orientation. from what I can tell it should not be that tight of a fit once all the ends are in correct orientation.

I would double check your hose ends to make sure that it was pre assembled in the correct orientation to the bends in the hose, it should be a relatively easy fit like the driver side.

heres what the hose looked like with the kink. just a heads up if any of you guys got in on the evo hose sale. no big deal just have to realign the hose ends. although you cannot use a standard screw type hose clamps due to the restricted clearence between the fender wall and hose fitting. there are crimp type hose clamps that are needed for clearence.

If ur car is a 2001 TT then u will have problems....
I recall talking to Todd Z about my problem back in the days and he said that the mold from the Y pipe was taken from I believe a 2003 TT and apparently Porsche changed the Y pipe slightly prior to that....
Call Evoms directly anad talk to Todd.... he will solve the issue for you...

I did. but I was pushing 1.4 bars. I kept mine and did a little work to them to fix the problem. The tabs on the metal ends were not in the correct place so I filed them down....
Again, I was told that ot happens only on the earlier models....

I'm sure this isn't a common problem. Just had to rotate the hose so that the correct orientation to the fitting and remove/replace the crimped clamp that goes bewtween the fenderwall and ic's. problem I had was on the passenger side, drivers side was fine. evo sent out replacement clamps.

are the hoses supposed to come pre-assembled? My shop ordered them direct from EVOMs and they came unassembled.

mine came pre assembled on the IC end. you need a crimping tool for the hose clamps on the IC side. this was part of the problem I had. the hose was crimped in the incorrect orientation to the y-pipe side. just needed to remove and reorientate the hose and re-crimp the hose clamp with new ones supplied by evo. all is good.

So I am using the AP hoses and just blew the driver side IC hose completely off last night, was stranded on the side of the road for a while. Thankfully was able to get to the shop and swap my stock one back on for now - thats service by the way when your mechanics come out to help at 10pm on a saturday night.
I have 2 questions if you guys can help.
1 - are you guys using hose clamps to hold the silicone hoses onto the machined ends that go into the IC's?

2 - my driver side upper hose had the machined end turned incorrectly so we adjusted that, but it also seems a tad to long causing a slight kink in it - that sounds similar to what you were referring to Oak...do you have a pic?

here is what mine looks like:

and it seems like it should sit like this:

so its almost like its a tad too long?

I can bet on it that u are having the same issue as other tuners did with silicone hoses.. why? well I noticed u have an 01 just like me. I had the saem problem... but they were from another tuner. I was told by the owner that the cast molding of the Y pipe was from an 03 TT and it turns out that it is slightly different...
had u a 03 and up the problem would not come up.
this is my honest guess..
markski

ps. I used my wifes nail filer to cut the tabs down just to fit them inn... and still eventually had some issues.. at 1.5 bars though.

Mark is 100% correct on this...the 01 Si boost hoses fit the 03 (maybe 02) and up fine, but have some problems with the 01. Mine has no kink:
