On some systems the reason it sound like **** has more to do with the fact neather bank sees each other. When that happens you have the sound of a 3 cylinder motor. The fabspeed design mufflers and others that don't connect would greatly benifit from connecting a balance tube between them. This also helps balance the pulses during the bottom end and increases flow and reduces turbo lag. The top end is very very slightly affected by the balance tube.

If you run straight pipes install a long pipe to connect the two. You will be amazed at how much nicer it sounds.

Look at mufflers by borla. You can achieve 1-3 psi back pressure on a modified 996 by using one of the 3" in/out dual designs.

I wish I had the financial resources to be in the race both of you guys are. It is impressive to see your passions played out on the forums.

Chad I get to see your beast in person every week. I look forward to observing the assembly process. I have had a first hand observation of each and every hurdle you guys have gone through.

PS I still want your turbos!!!
Have the parts been returned back from Protomotive yet?

As for the turbo's I'm still waiting for Rob to finish final assembly to make the turbo decision. He's telling me mid April. Is it believable?

He is pretty slammed with work rite now. There are a couple of new techs starting so that should help free him up to finish your car. I will be down there saturday and see what the statis is.

I made my changes in the initial post.
I'm not a welder, so I wouldn't know about the strength of welds of my Fabspeed Gen III. I guess only time will tell. However, w/ only a few hundred miles under my belt, the Fabspeed is everything I had been hoping for.

My car no longer sounds like a blow dryer and has absolutely NO drone. Matter of fact, w/ the top up, there's hardly a difference in noise inside the cabin, until I open her up (the car, that is )

When I went shopping for an exhaust, I couldn't justify the price difference between a EP and the Fabspeed. Kevin @ Ultimatewerks was an absolute pleasure and a professional to deal w/ when asking him about his EP. Answered ALL my questions at great length and never made me feel rushed or that I had put him out. Matter of fact, that was the reason why I purchased his programmer above all others for my ECU. But, at the end of the day, I was looking for sound (no drone), performance enhancements, and quality.

Did I need a showpiece that would look so pristine you could eat a meal off an exhaust? No, and quite frankly I don't think any exhaust would do that. Matter of fact, let's all be honest w/ each other. How many of us are going to jack our vehicles up a lift and marvel at "precision welds" on our exhaust systems anyway??

If after years and thousands of miles later, I have problems w/ my Fabspeed, I'll be certain to let you all know. In the interim, I still say that IA hasn't let me down w/ their representations on the new Gen III. It's been everything its been represented to be for thousands less. IMO, Porsche owners don't need to always pay insane prices for quality products.

I couldn't agree with you more... I recently installed a Fabspeed Gen. III on my '02 TT and am extremely happy with the performance, across the board. The exhaust note is great, with NO DRONE. The weight savings, 25 lbs. is substantial. I immediately noticed the additional power. Fabspeed claims 25+ HP and that figure seems more than reasonable based on my SOP meter. And, finally, the price is much more reasonable than the Europipe. I'm sure the EP is a fine product, but the $2k I saved on the Fabspeed will pay for UMWs Stage 1 ECU programing and give me another 100+ HP.

I'm thinking of getting a Europipe quiet, as i don't want to get thrown off trackdays here in the UK for being too loud..but the loud is what I want. Is there anyone who does a similar PSE type system where the exhaust can be loud or quiet?

I think US noise regulations may be more strict here unfortunately...

I'm going to one soon and they have a limit of 101dB 0.5m at 45 degrees from the exhaust (at 3/4 throttle).

At this level (although this track is probably the most strict in the UK regarding noise) I think i might just pass, but equally likely to get denied entry....suppose the alternative is to go to another track!

I really need to hear these 'live'. Internet youtube clips of exhaust sounds isn't really a gauge of reality (for me anyway).

Thanks

Steve: It was good to see you out and about yesterday. I hope to see more of you at the events.

Derm: I agree with you...the subject of this topic is a bit misleading. Although it touts the name of Europipe, some of the posts (#63) have a lot of research into them on a variety of facets related to exhausts in general and subject matter in specific. It's well worth taking the time to go thru the entire discussion because there is a lot of information spread throughout. The topic of which muffler or exhaust sytem to buy is usually one of the most subjective (and commonly encountered) you can find....and usually ends up with the individual recommending whatever system it is they happen to be running. Thanks to whoever it was that resurfaced this subject, becasue I wouldn't have fhought to find it indexed under Europipe.

Indeed a nice read.
After long research I installed a Stage 1 Quiet on my TT Cab.
It is a very sophisticated sound and absolutely not obnoxious, unlike some other brands. Being able to listen to the Turbo spool is a nice added benefit.

On top of that.....IT'S MADE IN THE MOTHERLAND ! (Belgian)

Dealing with Stef was a refreshing experience. Not pushy and very matter of factual.

I had a Fabspeed gen 3, I thought my motor was broken, I had it re-installed twice and still sounded like a out of tune Hyandai Excel in a dumpster, serioulsy it sounded that bad.

I eBayed the Fab gen 3 and bought the EP2 Loud, I questioned the loud part but in all honesty I can cruise through the neighborhood on an early morning without waking everyone and stomp on it on the main roads and scare the beejeesus out of people without making my ears ring for the rest of the day, its exactly what a Porsche should sound like! I dont hear any drone, but some say they can, so who knows. Yep, it costs significantly more, but then again I'm significantly more happy!

I dont depend on my exhaust to make more power, that's what my UMW 2c turbos and tune are for :-)
