Hoosier R6 - size, tire pressure for track
Hoosier R6 - size, tire pressure for track
Please let me know what size R6's you guys are going with (996TT). Front choices are 225/40/18, 245/35/18 or 245/40/18. I was going to go with the 245's in front, and considering I ususally go with 235/40/18's, I thought it may be better to get the 245/35's to help prevent rubbing... Please let me know. Also, for those of you that use Hoosiers on the track, what tire pressure do you start with cold (and where do you want them to be hot)? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

The diameters are the closest, and the right for stock
wheel widths. You'd want low 40's psi hot.

I run 245/35R18 up front and my car is low. No issues with rubbing. They are on 18x8.5 44ET wheels. For the rear I run P315/30R18 on 18x11.5 ET44.
No issues with rubbing at all.
Great setup! I was able to keep temps between 40 and 44 and they were WAY sticky!!!!!!!

Woodtster why do you say that? We might have conflicting info. My tire engineer recommeded 40 to 45 for the hoosiers on my car. I know the subie guys try to get 52 in theirs.

Hoosier recommends the optimal hot pressure as being around 40-44 on the R6. Past compounds were different. I get the best stick at those pressures and start at 32/34 cold on my TT and then check temps with a pyrometer and bleed accordingly
I run 245/35/18 front and 305/30/18 rear Hoosiers on my 07 997TT. The 305/30/18 is actually a VRL compound - Viper Racing League - which is almost identical to an R6. The tire heights are shorter but the ratio of front:rear is within 1% of the stock tire sizes and the diff and electronics are unphased.
