I know this is a TT porsche forum, but most of you are pretty knowledgeable in the high performance german car territory...and some of you probably have a supercharged mercedes 55 in your stable. My father just bought a 2003 e55, and we are looking to upgrade the power. We have already got rid if the crappy conti tires, with some GY gs-d3's to replace them. What is the best company to buy from, how much is it, and how much power does their kit make?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Brabus has a nice kit. They have a very inexpensive upgrade for this car described in detail on the mbnz.org board. Essentially one of the intake tubes is narrower than another. Drop $10 and get about.2 sec. The Brabus package for the SL 55 goes to 550 hp, 575 lb.-ft. torque without engine porting.

I called Brabus, they wanted 15k to change a pulley, belt, and chip.

There are a couple of options out there right now for the 5.5l Mercedes engines. We are currently working on one ('03 E55) at the shop and have been going through the search. The easiest power upgrades are an ECU, pulley, and intake. Intake you can get from MB, while the pulley and ECU can be had from Renntech or EvoSport. IMHO, the car does not need more power, but better control. It is floaty in turns and already has too much power for the suspension. Look into lowering it, reducing unsprung weight, and then focus on power. Hope this helps.

dgussin1:

Sorry for not specifying. I beleive the driver side intake off the new S class is the proper intake. You only need to replace the driver side intake as it is cramped from the radiator. Try searching on www.mbworld.org for more information. Please feel free to pm me if you have any more questions.

Another shop for you to check out would be Evosport

They've got a couple of goodies for Mercs and seem to have a pretty good rep from what I hear ...

Thanks to all you guys with the input...I will definately get that intake ordered, and look into upgrading the ecu and pulley as well as the suspension! If there is any other advise you can give me that would be great.

Thanks again!
