engine blower fan

I've noticed that now that the weather is warmer, the engine compartment blower fan always turns on after shutdown. Even after short drives it comes on and stays on for a good 5 minutes or so. Is this normal? Just got the car couple months ago so I'm not familiar with the fan's normal behavior.

I've only had my car for a few months also and noticed the same thing. It's heating up here in AZ and I notice that the fan comes on after shutdown just about any time I drive it.

Mine too. I've been told it's normal. Fan comes on to cool off the engine bay based on some temp threshold. This "system" stays active monitoring that temp for something like 20 minutes after parking and cycles the fan as needed.

Yep, once it gets hotter out, it will turn on for a few minutes. My car sometimes stays on for 5 or more minutes then stops...then turns on again sometimes when it is really hot out.

It will continue to run (turn on and off) until a preset underhood temp is reached. Can't remember the temp but I am sure someone will chime in with that piece in info.

Yet we still need to idle for 1-2 minutes to cool down the engines in addition to the fan..

First the fan does go on when a certain temperature is reached...even after shutdown (it may cycle on and off multiple times).

Second, you idle your car for 90-120 seconds to cool the turbos, not the engine. The main source of cooling for the turbos is oil. Once you shut the car off the oil stops circulating. Next time put your hand on one of the turbos after you stop (just kidding). They are extremely hot...the circulating oil helps them cool.

I've noticed that sometimes the fan stays on for 15-20 min consistently. Please tell me this is normal!

I have the opposite situation. I've had my 01 TT with 30,500 miles for over a year. The fan has not come on ONCE after shut down since I've owned the car. I brought the car to my dealer who insisted it checked out perfectly and that there was nothing wrong. I have several buddys who have turbos and it baffles me that after a spirited ride, when we shut down, their fans come on and mine doesn't. My dealer told me to "drive it harder". Now, I am CPO'd for several more months. Why wouldn't my dealer swap out my fan something wasn't right? My garage heats up at leat 10-15 degrees after I pull in and shut down. Any thoughts?
